Hello,

As per title, my mum needs to give back a Latitude 600 dell to her course as she finished it, now she wants her own lappy.

Budget is up to 500€ absol. max, but less is preffered.

She has several wishes:

As fast as her current lappy ( D600, 2.4ghz pentium M, 512mb, ati 9000, 40gb ram).
A microphone & preferably a webcam, skype use.
15'' min...

I thought about a Dell Vostro 1000 with the turion X2 3600+ ( instead of the standard sempron) and that aside all the basic specs...
It is 329 without VAT...

But I'm not sure if the vostro has a webcam, does it? Are there any alternatives for the same price and same specs ( so say 400 € inc vat for a dual core, 1gb ram, ati x1150 or better, 80gb hdd or better). It can be an enterprise exclusive lappy as my dad has a company and my mum can buy it through him...

Any opinions ?

Anyone?

Ok so apparently the vostro doesn't have a cam...

Does anyone know of a similar specced&priced lappy that does ? And is there either something better for that price or the same for less?

Is there really nobody interested in the bog standard lappy for office, the occasional film and or game and mostly skype/msn use ? Please help I don't know almost anything about lappy's at all, what's on the market etc I just went to the dell site and looked what they had...

Doesn't really need much thought, a bog standard Intel C2D dual core, preferably 2GB of RAM, IGP. Although webcame is harder to come by.

Anything for 420 €'s like the vostro 1000 with a cpu upgrade ?
Anything wrong with the amd turion X2's ? Remember it won't be seeing much games or encoding or whatever...

older chips so poorer performance for the power consumption, the laptop AMD X2 over heated also. I'd go for the slowest Intel C2D you can find, probably 1.6ghz?

Intel not an option on the vostro 1000...

Overheating hmmm :(...
Efficiency not a big deal anyways, will be used on mains mostly so doesn't really matter anyways...

Any suggestions what other models I should look at?

Looks good but a bit more expensive...
Can you save on the OS ? I'd rather install my own OS than waste money on it? Or is there home basic so it comes out cheaper?

I'm just worried about '' GMA X3100'' as I don't think that has shader 3.0 ( or does it, as although it'll be my mums lappy I wouldn't mind playing TF2 or similar on a holiday), but nvm it's not essential for that price it looks superb...

Thank you, going to take a look on the acer aspire...

Just checked, nowhere here on an NL site ( tried all the price comparison sites) you can buy it for so cheap, they're all 599 or more, some stupid shops even selling it for 800...

599 euros is 100 euros over the max budget, and 200 euros over the preferred budget.
Can you recall some cheaper model or anything ?

Edit found it for 541 at one place, but not cheaper :(.
