My mum's with freedom2surf, which is now part of Tiscali with the Pipex buy out yesterday.
I'm wanting to have an emergancy backup plan in place for her incase the F2S sevice really takes a noise dive.

This is what I'm after:

2MB - 8MB: Currently on 2MB, She's more of a browser than downloader.
2GB Monthly Capacity: She has never went over this limit on F2S
POP3 Email: At least one email account
Static IP: Makes giving her remote access support easier for me :)

Budget: £14.99 per month NOT A PENNY MORE!

No need for router etc as that's already inplace.

What's my best option to look at?

lol, for a second there, I thought the thread title read 'Spec my new mum an ISP'. :p

Thats more of a title for an episode of Jerry Springer than anything else :p

I don't think for £14.99 per month you'll get all that and a static IP too?

Be interesting to see if someone can offer that exact package/cost though

p.s. Could use logmein free version to help her remotely, means no need for static IP's and it's free and works well as I use it to support a few home users at work :)

1GB a month from IDNet, plus additional usage at £1 a GB. Ticks all your boxes bar the usage level:

All of our broadband services include as many personal email accounts as you require including SMTP, POP3, IMAP & Webmail, free technical support, unlimited uploads and a free Static IP Address.

Without scraping the barrel with the likes of Tiscali with "unlimited" for £cheap, it's pretty hard to find an ISP that'll offer everything you want for £15.

I'm on Be* who are superb. I'm actually tempted to migrate her across to the Be Lite package if F2S really start to go downhill fast.

Granted you have to pay £2 per month extra for email but is a fantastic and reliable service.

Up to 24 meg download speed - She'll get around 6-8MB
4 gigs usage included
(additional 5 gigs for £5)

Upload speed up to 0.4 meg
£14 monthly
£24 connection fee
24/7 support hotline

As I said this is just an emergancy plan if it's needed.

Thoughts?

I also thought of Idnet straight away, but assuming she needed 1.01GB's you may as well go for an Enta 3/30GB package at £16.50. Edit: If she is never going to go over 2GB I would still be persuaded to go for IDnet...

Is DYNDNS a possibility?

I've been with ADSL24 for a month now and cannot rate them highly enough, excellent service, rock solid connection/speed, sensible download limits, 1 month contract etc. I've been with various other major providers over the years and can honestly say I will never go back to them :D
