And by old I mean old! My Mum uses a Nokia 1100 which came out in the 3rd quarter of 2003. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_1100

My Mum doesn't need an amazing phone but would like one that can take photos. Can anyone suggest a decent phone for no more than £100-125 that I can buy her that won't be too hard to use and lets her take photos?

She did suggest using my Nexus 6 once it gets repaired. I said it'd be like expecting the Wright brothers to go from their first plane to suddenly command the Star Ship Enterprise! Mother wasn't happy with that response! :D

I did give her my old HTC Sensation to try but I think that's so old that it is slow and clunky trying to run Gmail and so on. It doesn't surprise me that she couldn't get on with it.

Lumia 435. Carphonewarehouse quite frequently have this for £4.99 on a Pay&Go upgrade if you've got a Pay&Go sim to use. To be honest at that price, if she likes Windows Phone she can get something better (e.g. a 550 or 640) or if she doesn't get on well with it keep it for spares and get something like the one mentioned above or a Moto G or something.

I've got my mum on a Windows phone as I find it's quite easy to less tech savvy people to get to grips with.

Hi lkona786. Thanks! :D I was impressed I came up with it so quickly. She wasn't. I was thinking about getting a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 as a spare phone for me whilst I was waiting for my original Nexus 6 to be repaired. In the end I got fed up waiting (its been with the repair centre for 3 weeks today and they are still "awaiting a component") so I got a new Nexus 6 direct from Motorola so I can either make my original Nexus 6 (when it returns to me, if ever) my spare or sell it and re-invest in a decent spare. Wouldn't have thought I'd get much more than £200 if that for a 32GB Nexus 6 so no point really off-loading it for a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6.

Just checked the Smart Ultra 6 and it runs Android so I could let her play with my Nexus 6 and if she can cope with that the Smart Ultra 6 should be fine. There's also the Smart Prime 6 that is about £45 cheaper. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Scottland - I was looking at the current crop of Nokia phones but as they run Windows I can see my Mum getting frustrated at the UI. Whilst she might like it I wouldn't want to gamble! I'll see if I can get her to look at a Windows phone video and see what she thinks. Thanks. :)

Hey kona786 - Can't get quotes to work tonight so double posting!!

On my old HTC Sensation I found an app that allowed me to put an icon on the screen that allowed her with one press to phone home. I think I'd just use a single home screen with a phone, Gmail and camera icons so she's not overwhelmed.

How else can I set up an Android phone to be simple to use? :)

As you probably know, You can setup an Android phone to be really simple too.

You can do some things, but the whole interface on Windows Phone is way more simple I think (probably because you can't do much on Windows Phone! :p)

Anything is going to be different to her current dumbphone ;) That's why I suggested something that can be had for £5 so if it gets tossed out the window in a fit of rage it's not much lost :)

Just found a kind of Windows Phone UI demo on the Microsoft website. Will get Mum to look at it and see what she thinks. Looks like I can get the Lumia 435/535 and Motorola Moto E 4G for under £100 which is good.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Now to see what Mum thinks of them!

Hi MichaelAwkward. Not as much as that I don't think. Maybe £10 every so often. She just tops up as and when she needs to. :D

Will check that out because if its about £10 every month or near enough it might be worth looking at soemthing like that. Can't see the 2015 Moto E for £8.50pm on Tesco Mobile. Can only see the 2015 Moto E for £69.

Looking at that £8.50 would be overkill. She wouldn't spend anything like 250 minutes talking or 5000 texts. I'll check her PAYG spending just in case. She might end up going crazy sending texts and calling people with her new phone!!

Sounds like a good use of freedompop, check it out 200mbs 200 txts and 200 min for free every month

I just got my dad his first smartphone for his Christmas... Went with the Sony M4 Aqua as he is outside in the garden etc a lot so like that it is waterproof/dustproof in case he drops it in the soil/puddles or leaves it out in the rain. Coupled it with a tempered glass screen protector and a tough case to be sure for shock protection.

Its also a decent size (he is a big lad) and should have great battery life etc...

It was £99 from Vodaphone so decent deal.
