Right, my dad wants an mp3 player for his birthday (61st) and so I am going to buy it for him. There are a few criteria:-

It MUST have a radio
It MUST be VERY easy to use
It MUST have a decent size display (his eyesight isn't great)
Preferably (Very) Good battery life
Prefereably enough storage for 1,500-2,000 tracks

I like the look of the iRiver U10 but haven't seen/used one.
Any suggestions/ideas/help will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
:)

Budget?

Im sure theres Sony MP3 Players..or even the headphones that have built in Radio?

Will look around for you though.

Well ive found a suitable one, its a Photo one, but surely you can just add a few if he wants to have a few memories etc.

Creative Zen Micro Photo 8GB
£146.82 inc. VAT =]

It looks fairly decent, and is stylish.

Only thing im not sure about is the size of the screen, whether its enough.

Btw that price is from OcUK =]

I like the way Sonys operate - but he's likely to be confused with sonicstage - its not bad software now - just a bit odd to use.

Id go with Zen Vision:M big buttons - easy to use - big screen - drag n drop in win xp etc has radio....

Zen vision:M. If it built solidly enough for me not to break it then it should be fine for anyone ;) The main controls are huge and the only thing that might take a bit of getting used to is the scroll pad thing as its very sensitive to the slightest touch. The displays big, and the text quite clear, probably about the same as the ipod video. It will handle 2000 tracks with ease as its a 30GB player, and its only £180.

The software couldnt be easier, its just a copy of windows explorer where you drag and drop, and although it may be of no use to him, any videos that the player cannot play will be converted for him and automatically transferred.

Beautiful player in every aspect. Id imagine all the zens use the same software, so any zen id guess would be a good choice, but the vision:m he certainly couldnt go wrong with.

But thats just more wires and a £20 additional option for the radio, and you can hardly call itunes the most user friendly program ever, albeit the ipod software is quite easy to use.

Why do you use software? Ive never installed any software for mine - just plug it in any PC and drag n drop as PC's see it as removable drive! Or use windows media player.

Erm itunes is very easy to use, far easier in my opinion than windows media player. As for the additional wires with the new headphones you get with it you get about the same length of wire as with the standard ipod headphones and the remote part is actually quite useful if you are using the ipod on the move.

I would say iTunes is very easy to use? Import tracks, plug in iPod and it's done (99% of the time.. ) It's also not cluttered and has a nice clean interface :) If my dad can use it than anyone can!

ipod with radio remote? Only plays FM, and is about 35-40 quid. Then just pick the right size :)

I would go for that as well. iPods are easy to use as we all know and I've seen the radio for around £20 in the high street :)
