Basically she has 5k to spend and she rather likes Golf GTi's but they are not within her budget so she has set her sights on an astra and sports trim because she's had enough of basic trim in her Punto.

So spec her something other than a goddamn astra and ill go check it out, ideally the vehicle would be less than 100 miles from manchester since i cannot be bothered with the snow and all the fascinating traffic jams it will cause.

I dunno about anyone else..

But no please? thank you?

Want us to do the leg work?

No real indication on what she needs from a car?

Thread is a no go with that opening post.

Thank you OCUK Motors!

She doesnt like that shape of the cupra which is what i first suggested. Basically she needs a car, yes it will be used for travelling to and from work but it doesnt have to be a diesel since she wont be doing the horrific milage to justify buying one. She doesnt want the standard base spec, something with maybe half leather, alloys, built in mp3 cd player not the world but something a bit more than basic.

Maybe the mx5 but to they do a 4 seater?

of course they dont..

fiesta
focus
ibiza

can't think of much else.. a3's will be old for that money.. does she want a hatchback? or would she consider a saloon like mondeo?

There is no logic with women and car purchasing decisions. She has said Astra so Astra it will be. Spend your time trying to find her the best possible example of one rather than trying to change her mind IMO.

How much are Fiesta ST's going for these days? Would tick the sporty and 4 seats boxes. Failing that dare I say it maybe even a Fabia VRS?

*edit* Ah damn it, beaten by seconds!

Actually those are some good suggestions, especially the Civic Sport and Corolla SR. Do both of these still enjoying the famed reliability of japanese motors?

I was going to recommend the fabia vrs but she decided not to have that and decided a punto was a better choice.

But i am digging the fiesta st and perhaps she'll decide on one them, just have to find some clean examples.

Edit: Looks like the fiesta might be too small and probably look at the focus instead

I dont see why not, I've owned a lot Jap cars and never a problem only time i've had problems is when I owned Vauxhall, Renault and Audi I have a Corolla at the moment and other than a battery and a sticking caliper its been fine, a lot of car for the money when you look at the kit level.

The Civic has a bit less to it, it looks good but the kit level isnt as impressive but I would probably go as far to say that the Civic would have no ownership worries if looked after other than the usual wear and tear

How old is she? I'd think twice before putting a new driver in most of the suggestions here. But then again my sister drove like a banshee
