Hi all,

I'm looking to replace my PC with a whole new one. The old one will have a new home so I wont be reusing any parts, with the exception of the keyboard and monitors. It'll be used for graphics work (CS3), After Effects (loads of rendering), Photoshop and Flash.

My budget is around £600. I built my last one with help from here and it went relatively smoothly, so any advice is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Paul

Sorry for going off topic, but you clearly state that you built a computer with help from here last time. May I ask, how did you manage that? You've joined in Feb 09 and have 2 posts to your name.

Haha! Yes, I did a couple of years back. I ordered all the parts and then built it, only to discover the RAM wasn't compatible with the Motherboard. I wasn't allowed to swap and I raised the issue in the forum, then they banned me

Anyway, it's still the best place to get parts from and everyone on here properly knows what they're talking about (unlike me).

ro55o - I have an Xbox so I wont really need it for gaming. I'm just wondering if a better GPU will help rendering times in AfterEffects.

if you don't need an o/s then i'd update the mobo to the Asus M3A78 Pro AMD 780G, graphics card to a slightly better Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4670 512MB, and maybe get a decent cooler like the Noctua NH-U12P (not sure how good/quiet the default Phenom II coolers are).

An aftermarket cooler will significantly improve overclockability. If you don't plan to overclock then stick with stock cooler.

EDIT: You've also specced an AM3 CPU for an AM2 motherboard.

AM3 CPU's are backwards compatible with the AM2+ mobo's.
