Spec needed for 3d rendering

hi,

hope you can help, mate needs a system for one of his lads at uni doing 3d rendering.

spec as cheap as possible, as usual wants best bang for buck, been told that the gfx card/setup must be dx10 compatible.

not really looking to overclock it as its going to be his working machine and he hasnt over clocked before.

Also is a high end card needed for rendering thought an NV8500 or ATI2600 would do the job ?

i will try and get info on what software hes going to be using, o/s hasnt been decided yet, neither has the screen.

system is going to be a uni setup, mainly to do rendering on, with watching dvds etc .
