Hi guys, i know you have helped me out before, and i have been very grateful :)

Currently the business runs 4 computers, i only looked at the spec of one which is Athlon 2200 @ 1.6Ghz - 256mb ram. Which by today standards is very low, so they have asked me to build some new up to speed computers, with the rough budget of £200-250, but the company could claim back the VAT for business use. The only things salvagable from the old computers will only probably be the optical drives and possibly the hard-drives but im not too sure yet.

I hope you can help me out with the spec :)

Heres a rough one i did up earlier:

you need monitors? or OS's?

Guessing they're just used for web browsing and MS Office etc?

That one you've speced is pretty good to be honest. Will browse the internet and use office just fine!!

Oh sorry, yeh they are keeping the monitors, and the OS wil be sorted out seperate, its just excel and web broswing really.

Is there anyway i could cut any costs?
Also is the motherboard ok? I'm not upto date with these new chipsets.

You could go the AMD route. If your just using XP for MS office and web you dont really need a fast C2D.

Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H AMD 740G (AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ 2.70GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail

Or you could spend an extra £6 or so on the mobo and get the Asus 780G board.

I'd recommend an asus barebones - they're very reliable. Also for 'just working' I do quite like Corsair.

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz (800FSB) - Retail £49.99 (£58.74)
Asus Vintage V3-P5945GC Barebones System - Intel Core 2 Duo (LGA775) £55.99 (£65.79)
Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 80GB ATA-133 8MB Cache - OEM £21.99 (£25.84)
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB) £29.99 (£35.24)

Sub Total : £157.96
Shipping : £8.95
VAT : £29.21
Total : £196.12

Thanks guys, i might look into getting a barebones system they seem to be pretty good value.

If you can stretch and extra few quid per machine, I'd go for 320gb drives for the extra speed :) Otherwise all specs shown here look pretty good to me :)

I'm not quite sure on what size of hard drives they require atm, but i will adjust accordingly before ordering :) Thanks.

Dont overlook total cost of ownership...

I'd get a pre-installed pc for a business.. I thnk all the ocuk ones have 1 year collect and return

He's building his own.

I'm not sure a big oem is the best option for small business - a pc should last 3-5 years and on low numbers you'll get far better quality for the same or lower price.

Do you want to buy the cheapest un-branded components with a support package at extra cost, or good quality components that don't need frequent replacements?

Well these pcs have to last around 10 years probably, so ideally quality components, thats why im just having second thoughts on the barebones system. But im not quite sure yet.
