Im looking at building a new pc.

And i would like a gpu that will cope with converting films, watching films and blu ray capable.

My pc will be plugged into a hd tv

I run low res. Something like 1080 x 960 or something like that

NO GAMING on pc :)

Budget up to £100

Thanks

Thats CHEAP :D

Urm and that would cope with blu ray films?

Is there anything that looks a bit a nice, like the gtx range without the price tag?

i would like a gpu otherwise, im just gonna have a mobo and thats it at this rate lol

To be honest, you'll only ever need a £100 graphics card if your ever intend to play games (more or less), almost any entry level card will be fine for Blu-Ray playback, and probably most new integrated chipsets (gfx on mobo) will aswell.

If you want something that looks nice then maybe have a look at the 46x0 passively cooled range as many of them come with HDMI ports and would suit your useage without costing the earth...

I read it as it has :(

HDMI adapters almost always break HDCP tho which is a pain - yeah sure you can just use anyDVD HD but thats another story. Native port is much better.

well most TV's come with DVI/VGA ports could you just plug that into the TV and then just plug bluray player into TV via HDMI?

My pc is plugged into the tv as the moment.

The blu ray player will be inside the pc. So i dont know how i can plug that into the tv??

Them cards look ok. I think i would like a GPU with HDMI built in tbh :)

Still stuck on what to get at the moment.

But im starting to like the idea of using a mobo with built in GPU :)

DVI I think can usually carry HDCP but that depends on the setup.

VGA currently can because HDCP is using lax settings - but the spec actually calls for degraded quality over VGA and has the option to disable VGA compatibility entirely... tho tbh I don't see either option being used if media companies want to actually make money from blu-ray.

DVI is better than HDMI if your TV has a DVI port but last i looked i think there was only one card that had a proper HDMI port and that was the 9800GX2 which is a bad card + its expensive if you do find it, think they still sell for like 130-150 pounds.

Sorry to bring this topic, back from the dead. Didnt see the point in making a new thread :)

But i wanted to double check a few things before i order my Blu Ray player and GPU

My tv is 1080i and it runs at 1360 x 768 (that the highest it will go for the pc input)

Im assuming, if i buy one of the GPU's recommended above and then a blu ray player for the pc. I wont have any issues at all?

And i have a spare hdmi slot on my pc - So i can plug my tv straight into the GPU?

Thanks

Can i just get:

blu ray player
hdmi lead and plug it all in together into my hdmi slot on tv and run at like 720p/1080i ?
