Hey guys just need a new machine as my current one is literally knackered and can't handle many application or high quality videos,

Would be mainly used for running various applications and things such as Browsing, College work (Running Various OS on Virtual PC) and watching Films/TV Shows

Don't do any gaming at all really except Football Manager occasionally,

Requirements

  • Least 4 gig ram
  • Intel Preferred
  • Don't need OS or Monitor

Thanks!

The onboard graphics with the i5 2500K will be more than enough to run Football Manager. Could always add a dedicated graphics card in at a later date if you did get into gaming or need it for anything else.

Could add another 4GB RAM if applications you use are heavy on the memory.

Also worth shopping around as few bits and bobs may be cheaper elsewhere.

If your not a fan of the case, pop in this and pick one out you like.

H67 - No overclockinging, onboard graphics
P67 - Allows overclocking, No onboard graphics

The i5 2500 actually has a weaker onboard gpu than the i5 2500K (Integrated HD 3000 (12 EUs) Graphics).

If you want to go with a graphics card then I'd recommend going for a P67 motherboard. This will at least give you the possibility of overclocking your cpu.

Maybe pick up something pretty basic second hand.

Just to give you an idea of the quality of onboard graphics, it performs just about on par with a radeon hd5450. Benchmarks here

That does indeed seem decent.
However I would pre-order the MSI Twin Frozer 5850 for £2 more - it'll be much faster than the 768MB Nvidia 460.

Considering you don't really game, going for the GTX 460 is a bit overkill. Very good bang-for-buck card but if all your going to be doing is playing Football Manager now and again, its really not worth it. Also will push your budget up by 20% or so.

If he isn't gaming then a graphics card is pointless full stop. Onboard with a 2500K will be sufficient.

Reason I'm unsure as to go for P67/H76 is due to most P67 boards having better and wider range of features,

And I'll be running Xp Pro and Vista on the VM's

P67 is only necessary if you're looking for Crossfire or or to overclock.

You aren't looking for either :p

quick query,I'm looking at a similar spec to the first one, in fact i just ordered it for collection. I ordered 1600mhz g.skill 8gb (2x4gb) kit (1333mhz 8gb kit was out of stock) then I suddenly noticed that the Asus P8H67 board only goes up to 1333mhz :O will the memory I've ordered downclock?

Mhmm, automatically. 1600MHz speed has to be "overclocked" in BIOS - RAM naturally runs at 1333Mhz
