Hi all,
As a result of an insurance payout for my old pc after a flood, I am wanting to put together a system for around £6-650 just for the box. My sig is a bit out of date but am replacing an E8400 system and would welcome any suggestions as to waht I can put together for this amount. Do some gaming but nothing serious these days, maybe some MOHAA or Half Life 2 from time to time.

Any help greatly appreciated!!

For more serious gaming spec an ATi 4870.

But for things like Half Life 2 or Medal of Honour, a 4850 is way more than enough.

The spec by Chimerical is very good. The only thing I'd change is the optical drive. The Pioneer DVR-216BK is considered extremely good and very quiet for just a few quid more. It's got excellent reviews and I believe OcUK use them in a lot of their builds.
I'd also consider getting the Corsair 620W modular PSU as it will keep your case a lot tidier and improve airflow.

By the way, did your insurance company give you vouchers out of interest?
I accidently killed my laptop last week by spilling water all over it and my insurance company have given me a voucher that I HAVE to spend at a certain store. It's very annoying because the store that I have to spend the voucher at is completely out of stock and have very limited choice...

And finally...

You can see from the sig what I went for in the end. Am very pleased with my new rig :D

Went with the Corsair 650w PSU and slapped it all in a Coolermaster Elite 330 case (which is excellent for the $) using Enermax Twister 120mm fans - which a) you can't hear and b) can remove the fans from for cleaning - and also went for the tried an tested Freezer 7 Pro. Incidentally, on this build the Freezer 7 Pro lines up with the rear 120mm exhaust fan and as the EVO memory has heatpipes running through the middle, air is also drawn through them as they sit just behind H/S fan! Result is that everything is pretty quick, very quiet and runs very cool... even under load.

Thanks for your help guys :p
