Hi,

I am looking to buy a new pc in the next week or so as i am currently using my laptop to game which is not as good and is bad on the eyes with the small screen.

I have a budget of around £1600-1700 but if i can spend less then it would obviously be better of course. I just need the PC and a Monitor, got a sound card, speaker system, mouse, keyboard and operating system already.

What i have so far looks like what is below, but i am welcome to any suggestions.

I will mainly be gaming on this system and hope to run most games at max resolution and max details.

Overall, looks very nice - couple of suggestions if your interested:

The Bundle is awesome, may want to send OCUK a webnote though and ask them if they can use the Corsair H50 cooler (when it comes back in) instead of the Noctua and you pay the difference. The corsair is very similar in price and much cooler.

Lovely monitor, all it's competitors seem to be out of stock too. But if they do arrive soon, this monitor is slightly better as it uses a superior IPS screen. Also, this one uses the same panel as the HP but has less connectivity options and costs less.

The PSU is great, but this one is newer and much better in pretty much every way. 750W should be more than enough, even if you add a second GPU.

The WD Green HDD is cheap, efficient, large capacity and quiet. Unfortunately, it is inherently slow, which is not what you want for a primary hard disk. Something like this would suit you much better.

This Optical drive is much better and costs the same.

Thanks for the suggestions, any are welcome when wanting to spend a fair bit of money.

I did have a look at the Corsair H50 but wasn't to sure, i'll have a look out and read up on it a bit.

Yeah i love the Dell, got a smaller version at work and love it to bits. I'll have a look at the others, mainly the HP as i don't like the colour of the Phillips but i'll probably end up with the Dell.

I decided on the 850w as i normally upgrade parts every now and again and prefer not to buy PSU's which are quite exspensive for a few years. What exactly is the difference between TX and HX?

The Hard Drive looks to be a lot better.

The Optical Drive, looks to be better in some ways but i'll have a read up about them both.

The HX is much newer than the TX. The main difference is that the HX is modular, so you only need to connect the cables that you use - this makes building and upgrading much simpler and helps improve cable management. One of the other improvements is the efficency (up to 91% under certain loads), so its cooler and cheaper to run. Here is a review showing how cool the new HX 750 and 850 are. There are many more with similar conclusions just google "corsair HX 750W".

If you feel the need for a 850W version (for futureproofing and whatnot), then this is basically the same PSU with a bigger rating. Its more expensive than the TX850, but i'm sure you will claw back the difference in power savings. I got one of these, and I'm blooming happy I did, oh did I mention they come with a 7 year warranty?

The differnce between the Sony and the LG is that the LG has some DVD burning problems from what I have read (not the most accurate writing drive out there). Meanwhile the sony is almost flawless and runs faster too (24x vs 22x). I'm sure you will be able to confirm this when you have a look at them.

Thanks for the questions you answered. I'll be looking into some of the parts mentioned and hopefully be buying this sometime during the week or week after depending on when i have time to actually make it.

I am thinking of switching the case to a Antec 1200 or maybe a HAF 932 but unsure about the size.

Also looking at maybe switching the Noctua for a Corsair H50 from the package when its back in stock.

Still unsure over the Dell / HP as i've heard both have their flaws.

The hard drive will be a WD Black Caviar and the Sony DVD drive instead.
