Hi everyone

After a very quick spec for a mini Windows server I'd like to put together.

I've already picked the case - Lian Li PC-Q08B for £74.99, and require the following within a budget of £300-£350:

  1. Mobo
  2. CPU
  3. Ram
  4. PSU
  5. SSD -- I'm fond of SSDs but unsure if the money would be better spent towards other parts for this purpose?
I also already have 2 x 1TB SATA 3.5" hdd's that I'll be using for storage.

Never built a server before so would also appreciate any tips regarding setup and performance optimisation.

Cheers :D

I've come up with the following for a build including an SSD - any words of wisdom?

A little concerned about the tight space between the PSU and HDD cage that's being reported.. any decent SFX psu's or modular ATX psu's around? (EDIT: Found the Be quiet! SFX Power BN134 for around £50 but unsure about it as it's not 80% rated)

Other than CPU Speed. I'd suggest a HP Microserver. They can be had for £100-120 from various outlets. And are plenty powerful enough for powering a small office of say 10 users.

Technically they are £200-220 but there is a £100 rebate. Takes standard DDR3 sticks. Much cheaper. You could even consider getting 2 for the price of your custom build.
And you also get the HP warranty, which if your specing a server is worthwhile considering.

Maybe worth posting in the server section too about this ?

Huge thread discussing them here : http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18216324
