Hello everyone! a friend of mine is looking to build a new gaming machine and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to spec out the best he can get for just the base unit and a budget of £1000,

only specifics are he would like to have an ssd as a boot drive and a high capacity mechanical drive for storage, he wants to get into pc gaming so whatever you think is the best for his budget is much appreciated.

The PSU is suitably beefed up, and this motherboard does SLI/Crossfire at an equal 8X/8X for both slots, the first spec ASUS board doesnt support SLI.

he did say he wanted to keep this machine for a few years, having sli as an option is the best idea do you think?
 
Well I got two views on it,

1) Adding a cheap second hand GTX580 will give any game a crushing blow in a few years time if you find it somehow starts to struggle.

2) The amount of people who ask for a SLI/Crossfire future option upgrade, but dont actually make use of it and just replace one card after another is probably more common place.

this is generally my view, but for the sake of some hard drive space would you consider that a better board?
