Hi all, looking at building a "new" pc, involving a fresh start with mobo, processor, ram and case.

I'm going to keep my existing graphics card (ATI 7870), PSU (Corsair 650W TX Series), SSD and HDD in the hope that it all carries on working for now. Will probably replace the HDD with a 512 second SSD at some point, and the PSU just if it ever dies or doesn't have the right connectors. Then I'll upgrade the GPU whenever it starts feeling tired.

Anyway, on to my proposed spec. Have I matched components sensibly? Is it a ridiculous colour scheme? Am I an idiot for not replacing the GPU now as well? All feedback appreciated :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £191.99
1 x MSI Z97-G43 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) ATX Motherboard £69.95
1 x NZXT Source 340 Midi-Tower Case- Black Window £59.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Predator 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (HX324C11T2K2/8) £59.99
1 x Raijintek Themis Black Heatpipe CPU Cooler PWM - 120mm £19.99
Total : £416.00 (includes shipping : £11.75).

My only concern is the memory may interfear with the cpu cooler as they have a larger sized heatsink.

That RAM is really tall, so in slots 1 &3 (from the socket) slot 1 will have some interference. Slits 2 & 4 may work though. Honestly though you may be better getting some smaller non-blue RAM or getting a 120mm AIO like the cooler master sedion (did I spell that right?).

Yeah I thought the extra colour was a bit much actually. I liked the simplicity of the S340.

That Cooler Master Seidon does look pretty nice actually, might be a good option!

Edit: really like the slightly more subtle blue trim on the S340 though it doesn't appear to be available yet.

There are some slim coolers that will help with clearance.

One from Bequiet and the other from Scythe.

If I'm going for silence, what's the best reasonably-priced cooler that would fit this build.

I'm not on a super-tight budget, but I am all about good value, so if it does a much better job than an air cooler for a few quid more, I'm in.

Not looking to spend £100 on a cooler though :)

Cheers, I did some reading around and it sounded like the Seidon was a bit loud and had some other faults. Would be interested to hear from anyone here that has one...

It would look very nice with the rest of the kit on the list :)
