Spec Router and some fiber advice

I've got crappy virgin internet which usually runs at 3.x-4.0 Mbps. Virgin doesn't offer fibre in my area (Eastbourne). The router is horrible and needs to be restarted more than once a day because the speed suddenly slows down to a crawl.

1) Recently found out about Sky fibre but I switched to virgin around April, and I'm guessing I'm tied to some 1 year contract?

2) Can anyone spec me a good router that is great for online games. I'd like one that hasn't have NAT issues trying to connect to everyone, as I also play older games like Age of Empires II, Company of Heroes, which have NAT-related connectivity issues. Willing to spend up to £70 for it... Or more if there is an actual benefit.

When my contract with Virgin runs out I'd like to switch to Sky fibre or some such thing, so something that will work great with the transition will be ideal.

1) Virgin are typically 18 month contracts (unfortunately).

2) If you could put your current router/modem into modem only mode (look into if it can), then you could look at getting this router. It can then be used as the router for whether you had ADSL or Cable.
