Hi, basically my cousin has asked me to build him a computer with the money he's made from delivering papers. (Budget of £400 he might get a little more for an early christmas present)

This will be his first PC but he mainly wants to just play games.

At first I was thinking of something along the lines of

Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45 (Socket 775) DDR2 Motherboard Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45 (Socket 775) DDR2 Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.5GHz 4MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor - Retail

Kingston 2GB (1x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C6 800MHz Single Channel Memory Module Kingston 2GB (1x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C6 800MHz Single Channel Memory Module

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS)

I'm not sure whether or not going with LGA775 is a good choice or not and i'm also not sure which graphics card to get.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

do not buy LGA775 Intel stuff new now, its old tech.

Hi there and welcome to the forums :)

The P5Q deluxe is a good board, but buying a LGA775, Core 2 Quad, DDR2 system at the tail end of 2010 is not the best move.

For building a gaming machine - you will want to decide on a solid graphics card that is within budget and work from there.

You mention a £400 budget, what does this need to include. Obviously you will need the core system (case, PSU, dvd drive, HDD, motherboard, CPU, RAM, graphics card), is there anything here that can be reused? Will you also be needing other stuff included in the £400 budget like a Windows license, monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse etc.?

A little over, does he require windows?

Hi, thanks. Lots of replies so quickly :D

cmndr_andi, He already has a monitor, mouse, keyboard and the OS.

Would it be better to go with an ATI card with this budget?

Thanks.
