A mate is after a new build to replace his ageing desktop, he'll mainly be using it for streaming, playing poker, general internet use, occasional ripping dvd's. movies and TV etc. He may play the occasional game as he's into the X-Box so may in time convert to PC gaming if he thinks its better than the X box. The streaming he does is live football and films etc.

I'll be doing the build for him, i was thinking of an i5 3570k and an 1155 Gigabyte motherboard like the Z77X D3H or similar, or would you recommend going the Haswell route ? The tower he'd want is one thats very good for air cooling.

Any suggestions would be great for the entire build including tower etc, in a shopping basket form would be great.

I'm not sure what kind of streaming you mean - watching shows or broadcasting games live?

For the former, you could get something plenty good enough for half the budget. For the latter, what kind of games does he stream?

This is a rough one i came up with, he already has windows 7. Just need to decide on a case.

Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £107.99
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £169.99
Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £71.99
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic £86.99
Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler - Blue £69.98
AMD Sapphire 7850 HD £140
Corsair Professional Series AX 760W '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply £119.99
Samsung optical drive £20

£786.94

Cheaper psu as you don't need such an expensive one, I've linked the 550w but you can go for the 650w which is ~£14 more if you want headroom.

Hi Fowler

Thanks for the suggestions, the memory looks interesting, never heard of that make though.

He wants a fully modular PSU of around 760W, its for the flexibilty of possible upgrades later plus only having to use the cables you need.

Thanks Stulid, its appreciated.

He wants to go the Intel route so have to decide on either Ivybridge or Haswell, also he wants a fully modular PSU. The memory looks interesting, are they low profile ? Obviously he'd need clearance to get a good air cooler above them.

I don't think that case would be the best for air cooling with it having a sealed front and no vents on top, that Radeon R9 270 seems to be popluar so i'll recommend that to him.

Is their any huge differences between these 2 R9 270 cards ?
