Ive got a Geforce 9500GS graphics card or may use the internal one, going to wait a few months before i upgrade the graphics.

I dought that i would be doing SLI

Look's good to me, You could save £20 by getting this memory instead.

Will play the odd simulator now and again but more desktop based work

Was told to look at low profile in case i am going to overclock and use a big hsf

If you want hyperthreading on the i7 fair enough. i5K might be a better option and look to get an nvidia GPU for CUDA support later.

Then you want a more expensive quad channel or two lots of dual channel RAM kit ideally.

Z77 mobo you can go from 80 quid and up and xeon 1230v2 around 170 quid, rock stable has hyperthreading but no igp and no overclock.
