looking to order the majority of a new PC within the next week or so, and after much umming and ahhing, decided to upgrade almost everything.
currently keeping
asus p5k-e wifi ap Mobo
4x1g corsair ddr2 @1066

and upgrading to
buildspecc.jpg

tried doing the same build with an i7 bundle, and was looking at nearly £350 more. so thinking get this, then wait for the 32nm cpus later or anythign else that looks good, and have the rest iof the gear to support it. (plus i dont wanna have to mess about with windows 7 RC as im a monkey)

wondering if that looks good, or if ive made any big oops's
and secondly think im gonna need many extra cables for it all?

lastly, worth getting the 750 over the 650? was thinking for possible SLI upgrade later on if needs be.

drop the GPU and get a GTX260, the GTX275 is not worth the extra, then use the money saved on maybe something like a 24" monitor

also scrap any SLi plans you have, unless you get a new MB, you MB is not sli compatible (unless i'm mistaken its a p35 chipset) so even a 500W PSU should be plenty

i meant in the future, as im having to buy a new PSU just to upgrade the hard (500w antec basiq atm, 275 is req 550w min)
i know my current Mobo is not suited for SLI (though it is crossfire enabled, despite the second pci-e slot only being 4x)

indeed in further inspection of your thread.. my mistake... it is a p35 wont run sli im afraid.. although deffinately get 1 260 now and sli another when you upgrade your board :D

and also have you considered just buying a q6600 and oc'ing it.. with that cooler it will reach similar clock speeds at to your original chip with less cost...kind of a no brainer really :D

currently got an old q6600 (asked many times about overclocking it, finally found out its cus an old one, which apparently didnt clock as well as the later ones)

i liked what i read of the 45nm chips, running cooler is always good. and from prowling the CPU section like a dirty beast, ive seen that they can 'easily' clock to 4ghz, which is more than i'd need so i know i'll be able to do a nice clock, not knowing much about it all

case is an antec 300

gfx is a 4850

monitor is a really really old view sonic 19inch

and the harddisk is a 250gb western digital that's worn down, average speed is 35mb/s :(

not overly blown away by i7 looking at clock for clock benchmarks, so i figured, upgrade all this, then wait for whats coming out after, as my current set up would bottle neck the full potential of i7.

if thats the case then i'd keep the q6600, get the fenrir cooler on it and upgrade the rest of the kit around it.
