Friend needs advice on a new build with a budget of £600. Will also mainly be used for video editing / encoding a a bit of high end gaming.

Open to AMD/Intel. Just something he can keep upgrading over time.

Thanks.

Get an Intel Core 2 Quad (for encoding will cope fine with games too), don't go OTT with the RAM keep it to 3GB. Probably beef up on the storage side, 1.5 TB Spinpoint maybe. Probably do it, just throw in a high GPU, GTX maybe

i would argue on the side of the 4850 too mate - for political reasons :-)

i.e. Nvidia have been giants in the field for too long, so now ATI actually have a card that is at least as good as its Nvidia counterpart, it would be better for competition in general if we leaned to the ATI 4850 :-)

just a lil thought for ya mate
