Special Brew R.I.P.

Apparently McEwan's Champion tastes a bit like special brew. My brother in law loves this stuff and usually pops one into the 3 for £x offer when we nip to the supermarket. Like the guy in the video said, it's almost like syrup and there is a rich flavour.

Not my favourite by a long chalk but it's nice every now and then.

Special Brew?

For the special people in life!

Seriously who on earth drinks this alcoholic tar, no really WHO?

I drank it when I was 15 some 26 years ago? Thunderbirds red is what you looking for ! :p

What a load of ****ing alchosnobs you are!

From Wiki!

Special Brew is a strong lager brewed in Denmark and the United Kingdom. It was initially brewed by Carlsberg to commemorate a visit to Denmark by Winston Churchill in 1950. In May 1951 two crates were delivered to Churchill's London home. In a thank you letter Churchill called the drink "Commemoration Lager". In Denmark the drink was called Påskebryg (Easter Brew), but the Easter Brew has been replaced by a weaker beer (Carls Påske). For the British market Carlsberg called the drink Special Brew and production was started in Northampton in the 1950s.

Winston liked it and so do I!

And that is good enough for me! ;) :D

Beer of the Gods! :D

(There was actually an ad campaign for "Spesh" based round "Beer of the Gods" but even on the interweb it is difficult to find any decent current reference to it! :( )

Lol i cant find it either although i found this about it....

SUPERSTRENGTH lager Special Brew is to feature in its first advertising campaign in seven years in a bid to shake off the "park bench" image.

But the move to promote the nine per cent brew as Beer of the Gods was slammed by anti-alcohol groups because the lager is a favourite of addicts.

Many people associate superstrength lagers - of which Special Brew is the market leader - with down and outs.

It is twice as strong as a normal beer or lager.

But Carlsberg-Tetley, who make the lager, are launching the pounds 1million campaign to try to raise the profile of the product.

An ad will show a bronzed ancient Roman God holding the familiar gold can.

A spokesman for Special Brew said: "We want to reinforce our position to existing customers as a quality premium product.

"Research has shown that our customers treat Special Brew with respect, they see it as a premium product."

But a spokesman for Alcohol Concern said: "We are very worried about this. Special Brew's image is associated with street drinking and anti-social behaviour."

I had 3 cans of special brew once, this is roughly what happened.

I chap I know through work has just been on holiday to Vietnam, and he said that in one part it was common for everyone to brew their own alcohol. However, it was brewed in the morning, and was ready to drink pretty quickly. It then got stronger and stronger throughout the day until it became completely undrinkable at night. They repeat the process every day. Sounds great!

Heh, I went for a trip with a guy I met in Ho Chi Min, got to the museum we wanted, but then both stubbornly refused to use any sort of map to get back home, and decided to wander in the vague direction of where we were staying, with a rule that we stopped at every bia hoi place we walked past.

....Yeah, we didn't make it home that night.

i never liked special brew but i didn't mind the odd can or 4 of tennents super when it's ice cold.

edit: the operative words being didn't mind - it has been years since i last drank it. i don't think i could stomach it now. the strongest thing i drink these days is maybe 7% cider and 5% lager. i don't touch ales, wines or spirits.

I had a can of Special Brew last year and to be honest it wasn't the same taste as 10-12yr earlier.

Get some tramp juice Oranjeboom 8.5% for a quid a Can. Much better!

Special brew is a pure tramps drink, there is no other way around it.

It's like that disgusting frosty jacks cider and things like that - 2 kinds of people buy it, kids and tramps.
