specialist bike insurance

Hi all,

wife has been asked to insure a £5k bike through her work by an existing client. It's his g/f's son who is in a share house while at Uni and can't do it on the house insurance.

Who are some of the best insurers about?

I have my 2k mountain bike insured with legal and general, I tried to add it to the house insurance but they only go up to £500 per bike then they offered me their bike insurance. Just need the frame number and some details. From memory its covered at races and for up to 14 days in Europe so long as its not left unlocked, the cost was £30 for the year, I don't know if that's competitive or not but I was happy enough and didn't bother looking around elsewhere.

Marks & Spencer will insure high value mountain bikes.

I insure my bikes with More Than on my household insurance. I'm covering 6 bikes at between £1k and £3k up to a total of £8k. Works out much, much cheaper than getting specialist insurance.
