Specialized Rockhopper 2007

Im looking to get separate bike insurance, as there are quite a few bike thefts that occur at the uni which i will be locking it at, any recommendations? Also, is there any insurance provider that covers if bike is stolen without it being locked? (thats how last bike was stolen).

Forgot to say on msn. Most bike insurers want your bike to be locked up with a certified lock which have different ratings. Going from a kryptonite D lock to a kryptonite new york lock! Can get rather expensive!

yeah, im going to get a decent lock, better to be safe than sorry, going to be leaving the bike at uni from morning till night some days so better investing in decent lock + insurance. Any recommendations guys?

Be prepared for your drivetrain and steel boltheads to look like ****!

Wet weather riding + leaving outside = lose. It may be a pain in the arse to GT85 the frame and get it dry and also give the chain and cassette a rubdown to get it dry.

well thats just life, unless i move country, its gonna rain most days lol, i kept my old bike at uni, and it all looked fine, but i maintained it, degreasing and using finish line wet lube reguarly.

Personally I'd rather lug the bike up a couple flight of stairs and put it in my room rather than risk getting it stolen, especially at uni.

Halfords padlock lock out the back of uni it is for me with the bighit! Same goes for my brothers stumpjumper. Never had any bother with thieves. Got lots of attention today on the bighit off wee guys on cheapo bikes.....maybe because i did a stairset as a gap rather than rolling down them?

I rarely let my good bike - Enduro Expert - out of the house without me, I don't lock or leave it anywhere as I'm really paranoid about it. My Rockhopper I can lock pretty much anywhere, but I've invested in a good lock and an Allen bolt for the saddle.

Back on topic - I've got the 2006 Rockhopper Disc and I think it's ace. I've ridden thousands of miles on it since I got it, and it's taken pretty much anything I can throw at it. Handling is excellent, it's very responsive and climbs really well. Body position throughout is very good, you can get off the back easily yet still remain centred enough for climbing.

If you get the opportunity, I'd recommend getting discs as soon as possible, v-brakes are crap when it gets muddy. Also, the 17 inch Rockhopper has medium springs, the 19 hard, so if you're slightly portly for your height you may find the fork compresses too fast.
I was the opposite, when I got my 19 I was the perfect weight for the springs, now I'm too light so don't get the best from them.

It's an amazing bike for the price, I honestly can't recommend it enough.

what height/weight are you for the 19" rockhopper? I found the 19" too be a stretch in the arms for me, so would be that good in trails.

I'm about 5'10'' and I weighed about 13.5 stone when I got the Rockhopper. Spring weight was perfect for me at the time, I'm now 11 stone - mostly as the result of doing lots of riding - and the springs are too stiff now.

I've got relatively long arms though, a swimmer's physique despite the belly, so the 19 is perfect for me. If you're riding a trail bike, you don't want to be stretched out too much as you need to be able to move the bike under you easily, and you also want the ball clearance from the top tube as well. Test ride both sizes and you'll find one suits you better.

With regards to the Rockhopper link with Deore disk upgrade, the specs there don't tie up. The 07 Rockhopper Disc shipped with Avid Juicy 3s, so this is an upgrade done by the shop - your warranty may be affected. Also, as it's a shop upgrade, you'll still have the rims with the braking surfaces - disc-only rims are slightly lighter as they don't need to factor in the braking surface.

You'll be able to get the Rockhopper Disc for the same price if you shop around, drop me an email and I'll send you a link if you're stuck.
