I've been using many desktop tools for declutter for years now, from docks to fences etc. But finally I have a specific idea of exactly what I want, and I'm hoping someone has spotted this in the wild!
Basically I was hoping that I would have, say, a games icon on the desktop. And when hovering over that item it bursts out a grid of everything in it. Kinda like the docks flower type options but more organised, and placeable where I like. This would allow me to have a few icons dotted around but still contain a lot of stuff!
If this exists it would cheer me up, I spent ages sorting stuff like rocketdock, only to find you cant have 2 rows and running out of space. Now my desktop is organised with fences, but still full of stuff I use often :/

I used bumptop to do that a few years ago... not sure whats happened to it, it might have been bought by Google, but some alternatives to that would probably do the trick.

Just watched a vid of that. Looks pretty cool tbh. But damn their website confirms what you were saying. They were bought by google and nothing happened since! Doh.

Since Windows Vista introduced the new Start Menu, my desktop is devoid of any icons.

Hit the Start key on the keyboard, and start typing the name of what you want, and hit Enter. Much, much quicker than searching for icons on a desktop! (And having to minimise all of your windows)

For those that arn't running Vista/7 then you could use launchy - does the same thing as the search field in the start menu.
