I've resolved to upgrade only using cash, not credit card or other finance, so I am making a transition from Skt A (kit in sig) to Conroe gradually over a few months so I can afford the best possible stuff each month.

The first step will be to get a C2D E6600 retail and an Asrock VSTA so I can continue to use my AGP graphics card and the DDR memory. My question is - will the bus of the memory be fast enough for the CPU bus? Don't completely understand how and if it will work ok.

Secondly I will in future be getting a PCI-E card (X1800XT) and 2Gb of Geil DDR2. Will this combo clock the E6600 ok or will I need another motherboard? Thanks a lot.

PC2700 has a FSB of 166MHz, The highest FSB that the asrock board can take is around 300. You might get away with overclocking your RAM to 200 and using a 3:2 ratio but the safer option might be to use a 2:1 ratio effectively underclocking your ram to 150mhz.
