Anyone fancy giving an old codger a hand speccing a new gaming rig?

I am looking to spend £1200 max and I have already got a nice 19" LCD monitor.

I guess I need at least 2Gb of RAM, 200Gb hard disc, DVD writer, decent GFX card and some kind of Athlon processor w/suitable mobo.

Also need a case and PSU (preferably modular).

For that money I should be able to build something decent, if not completely top-end. Any ideas?

Other than the case that looks good (It has quite a lot of problems)

Maybe the v1000, akasa eclipse or stacker would be better suited,a lthough I suppose it depends what the OP prefers

What games do you play?? Would a 7800gt be ok, should run all games fine on a 19" monitor. am thinking get a 36gig raptor for programs, 7800gt and slightly smaller second hard drive for music etc...

Thanks for the help chaps - sounds perfect!

I mainly play Battlefield 2 and sometimes MS Flight Sim - looks like the tenth iteration of the latter could test even this rig...

Rob

The X2 4400+ is definitely a good choice for a topend rig like that.
The X1900XT is a very good buy at present & i wouldnt change it at all.
