EDIT: PSU Requirements changed. check post #11 please

Hi all,

Looking to get the prodigy as i simply can't resist it's perfection. This gives me an excuse to get myself a home server rig to hold my films more securely as they are all on one HDD atm and i don't want to risk having to get them all from the discs etc again as that took ages the first time!

My budget is not hugely limited but i don't want to go OTT. Silence is key and i will mainly be using it as a file server for films and backup of windows and Mac

I was recommended this earlier:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus AT5IONT-I Intel Atom DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard £144.98
Total : £154.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

But it is fairly limited on sata ports and doesn't leave much for opportunities in the future.

As a slight step up i was considering this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus P8H61-I Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard £69.95
1 x Intel Pentium G850 2.90GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £64.99
1 x Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler (Socket 939/AM2/AM3/775/1155/1156/1366) £15.98
Total : £162.32 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Other components will fall in roughly as follows:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Professional Series AX650 High Performance 650W Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply (CP-9020006-UK) £116.99
2 x Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM (ST2000DL003) £89.99 (179.98)
1 x BitFenix Prodigy Mini-ITX Cube Case - Midnight Black £59.99
1 x Intel 330 Series 60GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - Retail £49.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1333C9) £39.95
Total : £460.99 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Not done a server build before but as i understand this lot should be more than satisfactory and hopefully nice and reliable as that will be key for a server imo. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. I may go a little OTT and do a decent build log like the one i did for my 600T, thought this is only a possibility at the moment as i am at work all day so have little time.

Leave the atom and go for what you specified dude :)

Haha, didn't expect you to find me here too! :P

It looks good, the power supply seems a little overkill for what you'll be running but apart from that, seems great.
There is also a deal on these cases with some fans today, if you need some.

Im going to go for corsair AF/SP fans because they are awesome and looks THE DOGS. Also i know the wattage is overkill but tbh i want it to be neat and tidy and super reliable. other than the AX series, i dont know where else i can do?

Size is just not an issue for me. I want it to look good and work well.

I agree your spec is great, but it is a very clinical way of buying. It is great on paper, but in the real world there is no passion or love for the machine itself...

As cheesy as that sounds, i think it makes my point?

Im starting to think twice about my psu choice and want to spend much less. I am looking at antec and corsair builder series around 400-500w and looking to spend under £60. I dont have much time to read reviews and such so if somebody could recommend one for great stability and reliability i would be grateful. Also Coolermaster as they have a half decent modular 500w for fairly decent money, not sure about it's quality though.

Thanks

Everything apart from powersupply is already sorted provisionally. Some older stuff that i just gotta check works but should all be fine coule 2GB ram sticks DDR3 etc.

Just psu i need to make a decision on and im pretty sure im not going to be disappointed no matter what i end up choosing. corsair builder is probably going to steal it thought i think.

Also, out of interest, if i was going to plug this into my tv for watching movies too, would windowshome server still be a suuitable OS and how much would i be looking at spending on a GPU? £40? Only 1 pci though so i would be choosing between a raid card and graphics.
