Okay, I dessimated my Rebas yesterday :o, aluminium and delrin everywhere ;). My brother's going to pay to have them repaired and so he can keep them, meaning I need some new ones. They were at 8.5 cms of travel, on a hardtail, so I'll be after a similar fork, which unlike the rebas, can handle plenty of heavy downhill. I have ~£350, so um recommend away :D.

85mm is a XC fork. these forks range to 100mm. So are you sure you want another XC fork. If they break, its bcause they arn't made for bombing about.

what kind of riding are you into? my personal choice would be to look for some 2005 bomber 66's :D but thats my riding style, if you were going for similar forks to your rebas I would probably consider a set of Pace RC39 XC Hollowforms.....very nice :)
Just re-read and saw the DH bit.....look for some 2005 66's. They are the best freeride fork imo.

I've recently gone from XC to DH and 4X. I know the Reba's are XC forks, but there's nothing wrong with recking the odd pair of forks :p. I would have thought that the 66s would screw with the geometry of the frame too much? (presuming they're the 15" or 17" ones?)

But if you have a cross country frame, some free ride/ downhill forks with say 130mm travel like my marzocchi Freerides would up set its geometry They are more suited to a jump bike frame which is smaller, more easy to play with.

Reba's retail at £250 ofdd quid so I won't want to wreck them ;) which says to me, if this was a stock XC bike then it wasn't a bad one. I'd flog it and rebuild for your wanted style personally.

Or buy a new frame. Also guessing the wheels are XC and they will soon buckle, back one certainly.

Its going to be costy!

The bike was built by me, and its a large frame as it was built for xc, so I would probably want to get a smaller frame, the rims are Atomblab TP's, so they should be ok for most things (I hope).

Trail pimps hey... Should be fine. Forks wise you want 100mm at least if you want them for mucking about, downhill, small drops etc... Do you cycle A-B a lot? If so look for a lock down feature (ECC5 for example).

Marzocchi make strong forks although slightly heavy. Or try Manitous.

Look at some RS pikes.Everybody seems to be using them for 4x but i dunno the exact model, just look at how many different ones there is  .

i would say the 66sl,brutal look, strong as hell 150mm travel.....but that wouldnt match your frame or wheel :(

Best bet would be a RS with uturn at least so you can get uphills and the like.

Yeh I reakoned on needing more travel. I used to have lockout on the rebas, but its not something I'll need as much as I won't be going from a-b like I used to.

Yeh, RS seem to like having a whole range for each type of fork, which can make things very confusing :\. Both the Pike and the 66 are good, but as you say the 66 doesn't suit the geo. Neither fits the wheels (afaik) as they're both 20mms, but I haven't got too much a problem with spending a couple of days at Easter lacing ;).

You could save cash.....buy a second hand frame and fork combo to suit DH more.

I would link to some suitable ones at southerndownhill but it seems to be dead for the last few days

surely if you use longer travel forks than designed it will mess up the geometry of the bike

I have a set of 85mm Comp Air's and for the price (£170) they are brilliant. I think for around £250 you can pick up some 2005 SID's as well now which are lovely forks :)

Yeah they are all lovely forks but he says he does 4x/downhill. Need a bit more oomph....to take the about.I would say get a Z1 freeride SL.130mm travel, light as hell, tough enough and go for quite cheap,QR axle too!

£150 on teabay a set went for.

Hi, just a quick Thank You for your input :). I've contacted the frame's maker, and they say the max is 120mm, so I'll probably order up a Pike 426 and a Atomlab GI (+ spokes), and get lacing :D.

sids wouldnt even take a 2 foot drop or nethin so they r out of the question.

marzocchi dirt jumper range is what you want to look at 100mm travel and will take anything you throw at them. and with some of them you can upgrade them to 130mm easily.

You mean sids or pikes? ;)

I'll have a look at the DJs too :)

I have a set. They are sexily good.

Sids are great forks. Have a Specialized Stunt Jumper (none of this Hard Rock stuff) and it has Sids. Light and some of the best forks out there for.....XC so not for him.

DJ's are heavy as hell though if you want to keep light. The best ones, DJ1's? Have a 20mm QR Axel so not a normal front hub. DJ3's are not very adjustable so you want the DJ2's really.

the frs will be to much travel for your frame and as its an xc frame you risk snapping it with over around 115mm travel.

the djs are your best bet they are heavy but they will take anything you trow at them
