Spectacular Space Combat Game Required

Just got my new pc all sorted with some spangly new gfx and loads of power. So i am looking for a good space combat sort of game to play. not really strategy but something with loads of big explosions and fancy effects. sooo what do you recommend then?

You could probably have played the following on your old PC, and I do quite like X3, but what you should play if you haven't is:

Freespace 1 and 2 with all the spangly add ons and graphic updates.

There's nothing other than X3 that has been released in the last five years or so. EVE is OK but too pedestrian IMO. Freelancer is awesome but old now.

Get X-Wing Allianace, still looks ok and you can max everything out now and make it look nice!

Cant remember how good the graphics were so they might be dated now but..

Independence war 1 and 2
Starlancer - prequel to freelancer
There was also a battlestar galactica mod for x3, dont know how far it got though.

Spaceforce rogue universe is newer but ive never played.
Evochron Renegades never played it.
Lastly there was a game that had living spaceships, when you destroyed another you could absorb parts which would make your own ship grow visually and in terms of functions, cant remember the name though.. was a recent one.
