Sped me....a slow cooker

I can't remember from top of my head but from description:

The Delayed Start and Auto Keep Warm
The delayed start program allows you to set the eight in one to cook up to 15 hours in advance, so that your meal is always ready when you are - for preparing that early morning porridge before you head off to bed. What’s more, Its automatic keep warm feature ensures your meal is kept at an ideal temperature for up to 24 hours.

It doesn't work on all the programs but I can't remember which. Definitely works on slow cooking though. Just make sure that you can live with the capacity as it's on the small side but for 2 people it's been fine for us.

Why don't you just get a big casserole dish or large saucepan with a thick base and use that along with your stove set on low? You could put on dish in the morning before you go to work and when you get back even the toughest of meets will be tender and anything.

Are you really suggesting leaving a stove on throughout the day whilst you go to work? Seriously? That's really not safe.

I have two slow-cookers, both made by Crock-Pot and the only issue I've ever had was with the 4.7l and it was a broken lid that I broke. I wasn't able to order a replacement lid at the time so I bought a 5.7l Sauté Countdown to replace the entire slow-cooker, but then managed to find a lid as well but kept both. They both have their uses. I can slow-cook an entire chicken or joint of meat in the 5.7l.

Thats cool. The thing is for me cooking a proper lamb shoulder curry in the crock pot, is that if its on for more than 12 hours the shoulder disintegrates. I like big steaming lumps of lamb that melt in your mouth, not stringy bits in a curry sauce.... Not only that but by the time I have frozen some of it and reheated it makes it into a curry soup. It perfect at 8 hours on low. With commuting times and work laid in, my lamb shoulder curry just does not work. Sooooo.... if I could just delay it for 4 hours after I leave for work, I could come home to a steaming delicious curry and know that the frozen leftovers would be great.

Thinking about it, with 15 hours delay I could even prepare the curry before I went to bed, spending a bit more time and love on the prep and it wouldn't be ruined and I would get an extra 45 mins snoozing...

/Starts looking for a delayed start 5L slow cooker.../

Would you really want all your prepped food to be sitting in a pot outside the fridge overnight though? It's ok for veg etc, but a cut of meat? Doesn't sound like a great idea to me!

Why not, i have been doing it for years. Nearly once a week we have chicken done in the multi cooker that gets left all day for 7 hours.

Crockpot is decent, as the pot seems to last for quite a while. Not sure about direct heat as I've only used it for slow cooking.

At the weekend we almost did Beef Bergeneon in it.. only thing is it was for 7 people so in the end we ended up using a stove top pot (got two massive pots for big stews).

Hmmm... Not really got an issue with red meat left for a while, and its going to get a pretty thorough cooking. I would think twice doing this with chicken or pork. Guess you can always put the pot in the fridge overnight and then pop it in the slow cooker before you go to work, although knowing me I would forget!
