Hey,

Just got a letter through from Lancashire Constabulary, clocked doing 39 in a 30 :[ 200 yards before the road turns NSL. I could probably try getting out of it on a technicality or some such, the van is quite often on this stretch but about 200 yards further down pointing the other way and quite easy to see. This one was in a row of parked cars and hard to see until literally 10m from it :/ But hey, I was still speeding so ce la vie.

Ive looked up the figures and apparantly the cut off for the speed awareness courses is 10 percent + 6 according to the official document, but at the constabulary's discretion. In peoples experience do you think ill be offered one? On the letter they say I may be, but I have to confirm the driver first.

Cheers,

Tom.

I was in the same situation, clocked 39 in a 30, but they wouldn't let me do the speed awareness course and insisted on the fine & points :(

Hope it goes better for you mate, sorry to hear they got you :(

the cut off is normally 1-2mph above the prosecution figure ( normally 10% + 2) so you may just be a bit over , does vary from force to force though

When I got done 18 months ago, Lancashire worked on 35mph - caution, 36-38mph got offered a course and 39 and above was 3 points.

Have a look at www.safe2travel.co.uk, but I think thats still the case.

that looks still to be the case =[ is there anyway i can appeal or some such and try and get the course do you know?

Not as far as I know.

The fine is actually cheaper than the course though - I think it's over £100 now, was £90 when I did it.

yes, but im within my first 2 years of having a license so 3 points on it = huge worrying when im doing like 20k+ a year , knowing that if i stray over and get caught i lose my license.

Ring up the issuing authority and ask if the driver of the vehicle will be offered a speed awareness course before you send off the letter confirming who the driver is. Thats what I did. The person I spoke to was quite pleasent and confirmed I would be offered the course if I didn't appeal and sent the forms in.
