Anyone been on one of these, just had the offer instead of another 3x points, what does it entail, the letter just says it lasts for 3 hours, and my license will NOT be endorsed, presume thats not taken away.

I was caught twice by a speed camera, 1st time was doing about 34 in a 30 limit (that was last December), and my second time was about a month ago by another camera, i was only doing 35 then, and i saw the camera, but i had one of those 'never regsitered moments', it was just an 'oh theres a camera', then when it flashed it was a 'wtf, why didn't i slow down a bit', but speedings, speeding so i cant complain, my own fault end of the day, so anyone been on one of these courses, and can shed some light on it.

Thanks. :)

different places do different things.

the one i went on sounds like the one you will have, basically sit in a room with some people and talk about speeding, not OTT 100mph stuff, but doing things like 40 in a 30. basically they are trying to remind you that a small difference in speed can make a difference should you have an accident in a 30mph zone.

I went on one last year

Basically a couple of presentations, Q+A and a multiple choice no wrong answer type test, and at the end you get a printout telling how you drive compared to their 'what they consider safe driving' criteria.

Edit

And all the free tea/coffee/water you could drink.

Thanks for the replies, may just do the course tbh, id rather that than worry everytime i go out which i am doing now, im constantly looking for those signs saying the speed limit, and checking my speed etc..., and if i see a camera i do about 20 till im well past it, plus have to look out for the camera vans. :p

Sorry what? It's a no brainer. ALL you have to do is sit there for a few hours and watch videos of dead people.
People who take the points are just brain dead.
Is it for your first or 2nd speeding ticket, read the small print. There are exceptions when you can't take it.

Yeah its for my second, its been sent instead of the fine as an alternative, so all i have to do is fill in the form saying yeah i will do it, or tick the no and send it back, then ill have to pay the fine when they send that out, only thing is it says i need a new photographc license, but ive only got the old pink one, so it says ill need an alternative e.g a passport with photo identifcation eveidence, as i must prove my identity or ill be refused the course, but i aint got one of them either. :p

just fill in the dvla form, you have something like 6 month to take the course, you only need to take it along to the course.
Does it say anything about not being aloud on it, if you have previous points. Pretty sure my dads did. As they don't know who was driving they just send it out.

It just says normally :-

'You would receive a letter offering you the chance to pay a Fixed Penalty of £60 with 3x points, provided you do not have more than 8 points, and my driving licence must have been issued by DVLA at Swansea, only alternative would be a court hearing, However, as an alternative to prosecution, Northumbria Police is prepared to offer the following' which is the Speed Awareness Course.

Plus for the course, if i havn't attended a one before in the last 3 years, or are due to attend one, which i aint, i had no ponits since my first one last December, so up to now ive only got 3x points.

Ive got to complete the workshop within 4 and a half months.

Btw, what DVLA form. :p

Yep, well I think it's that form. I'm assuming you have never had a photo license. If you have and simply lost it. You can phone dvla up and just pay £19 for a new one to be sent out, takes about 3-4 days to arrive.

No ive never had one, i passed my test 18 years ago so ive only got the pink paper jobbie, it says the D1 pack is just application for ordinary licence, so will be that so ill get that sent for.

Cheers for the help. :)

My old man had to attend one of these after getting flashed at 34 in a 30 zone somewhere in Yorkshire. After 40+ years as a professional driver with not a blemish to his record he gets done for 4mph over the limit, which could quite easily be down to speedo calibration or something similar.

Little update.

Well i got the letter back saying i can do the course, and how i can book it etc..., also got a FAQ sheet which states if i dont have photographic ID, then i can just bring two other forms of identification, like a utility bill, and a bank statement. :)

I also got the D1 pack through the post which is the right one, so cheers for that AcidHell2, i think ill just fill it in anyway now and get the photo licence, even though i dont need one for the speed awareness now, as my pink paper ones well tatty now, ive had it 18 years.
