When driving to collect an air con unit today i came across a speed camera van. I was quite a distance away at least 250m with the van rear to me and above half way up a decent incline. I was doing at most 32mph on the speedo.

I looked up the tolerance limits but i am left confused as apparently they have changed from the 3 + 10%. Can anyone give me up to date info? And chances of being busted at that distance?

I was reading an article in some magazine the other day about the guy who introduced speed cameras into Britain. It was never his intention to prosecute at less than 40 in a 30 originally. :( He's sad too (about how they've been used as a cash machine for local authorities).

I think i did about 33 or 34 mph indicated on my speedo when i saw a mobile speed camera van this was about a month ago. **** myself for the 2 weeks but no fine or anything came through the post ;)

you honestly think you will get done for an indicated 32 in a 30?

Wow.

You honestly think that your post added any value whatsoever to the thread?

Wow.

Back on topic - indicated 30 will almost certainly be 27-30mph in real life and then there will be tolerance of at least a couple of mph - so kick back, feet up and relax buddy :)

ACPO Guidelines says 10% +2mph but it is the area's Police force that makes the final decision.

As said if your speedo says 32mph you were just doing 30mph actual speed.

yeah i am trying to relax, i just dont want to upset my boss. Again thanks for all the good advice.

As for the nasty comment; if it was my car then it wouldn't matter 1 little bit, as its my bosses car i worry.

Speedo will be out so you wouldn't have got caught at 32 imo.

Also, it depends on the area to what speed is actually a ticket. Where I am, they considered 33 to be the minimum for a ticket and 37 was the max they considered for a speed awareness course.

Always good to check your speedo with a GPS. My last Mondeo was a good 10% out always, but the latest focus is pretty damn close.

But as said, you won't get done for 32 even if you were doing 32.

Saw one of these the other day to the side of a road I normally travel more than 30 on. (somewhat industrial area with 2 lanes that eventually split different ways).

Problem for them was they had to park in quite a visible position to get people coming up the road so I did a solid 30 and wore a big grin. :D

I hope they were zoomed in.

Thanks for the reassurance. The major problem is that it was in my bosses car so guess where the ticket goes first..........

Off topic, but I've never understood this. How on earth do they trust their employees with their own cars? I could never do it. In fact, I don't think I'd like to borrow a car my boss owns.

I know someone with a 911 who drives it as if he stole it (very fast). It's not his. His boss lets him drive it whenever he likes.
