hello,

earlier today i passed a speed camera van, it was parked on the oposite side of the road, do they capture traffic passing one way or both?

many thanks :)

the vans are usually monitoring traffic comming towards them, but I believe the can potentially monitor traffic in both directions

This is correct, they normally only catpure vehicles travelling towards them, capturing the front registration plate and the driver.
The can though and do operate in the opposite direction.

Surely it would be bad practise to try and photo cars on the opposite side of the road as on coming cars could possibly obscure the photo?

I got done from the rear (ohh err), and from the opposite side of the road, was just my luck though that i was the only person going along the road at that time, so he probably thought, theres no one on this side, so ill nab that ****, so i guess chances are if theres quite a few heading towards him on his side, then he wont be waving the bugger about like hes straffing, trying to get some on the other side as well, although you never know these days. :D

The O/H has been done going away from a van.

As the laser is on a tripod and not fixed the operator will point it at ANY car he/she deems to be speeding at the time either going towards or away from the van.
