Right, currently Im running a pentium 4 (prescott 478 socket) on an Asus P4C800-E mobo.

The connected fans are 2x 80mm Enermax Everest at the front of the case running independantly using the temp wires that are installed on the fans, these are both powered by molex.

At the back Ive got a single Enermax Magma connected to the mobo via 3-pin using the connecter to the far right of the board. I couldnt use the connecter closest to it (far left of the board) .due to the CPU heatsink bracket getting in the way

The CPU fan (needs upgrading) is an akasa '**** knows' connected to the 3-pin just to the right of the CPU bracket (center position connecter on the board).

My question is;
In speed fan, Im shown 3 controllable fan channels (Im assuming 1 channel for every 3 pin connecter), and 3 temp readings.
1 & 2 have fans connected, 3 does not.
When I turn down the fan speed of channel 2, the CPU fan's speed slows.
When I turn down the fan speed of channel 1, nothing happens... it just keeps going at the same speed.

Why?

what happens when you change channel 3?

On my Asus board, all the chassis fans are controlled by one speed. Cpu fan on another and I have another seemingly redundant control that does nothing.

what happens when you change channel 3?

Channel 3 does nothing and reads 0rpm, the temp for 3 reads -147degrees.
When I change it, nothing happens.

At 100% fan 1 is @ something like 2500rpm, and fan 2 (cpu) is at 3100rpm.
When I adjust fan 2's speed the on screen rpm drops and I can hear the fan slowing.
But if I reduce the speed of fan 1, the on screen speed stays the same and there's no audiable change.
