Im upgrading from DDR2 to DDR3 at present and Ive snagged some PC3-8500 ECC ram taken from an office upgrade.
Reading around, I notice that the consensus is that ECC ram is slower than non-ECC ram - which makes sense I suppose given the extra checking it does, but I wonder, does anyone have a feel for by how much?.
Ie; would swapping from non-ECC DDR2-800 OCZ reaper-X to ECC PC3-8500 actually lead to a decent increase in memory bandwidth/ speed? (I understand about new motherboard needed etc - just take it as all other things being equal)
ta all.
