Kinda new to this so just stick with me for the min... and thought the best way to learn would be to ask :D

I've read the sticky at the top but couldn't get a definite answer.

ATM i'm on an OEM computer with a Q6600 (NOT OC'ED) & 2 GiG 667 generic ram, in cpu-z it shows no timing ETC..

So I'm thinking of replacing it with some branded ram, but from what I've been reading I'm not sure what speed to get. All the places I've read say it's best to have the ram set to a ratio of 1:1. So on my none oc'ed Q6600 the FBS is 266, so 266x2 = 533, so would 533mhz ram be the best performance ? If not and if i bought some PC2-6400 @ 800, due to it not been in ratio of 1:1 would i see a performance boost or decrease ? (Reason I'm thinking of getting PC2-6400 is cos it's about the same price as PC2-5300, so thought might as well get the extra performance if any for the same price)

Really Appreciate any info on this

get the pc2-6400, prices are so low and i doubt you will notice the ratio [someone correct me if i'm wrong] plus it gives you the option to oc - of your bios will allow?

Personally I don't really see any reason to upgrade - unless there is a problem with the ram but you did not mention this? If there arent any problems i dont see any reason to change the ram especially if you cant oc as that is when you would notice the enthusiast ram start to make a difference. I don't see you noticing much if any change with simply a switch from generic ram.
