Speed up youtube?

I currently get 3mb a sec downstream and 10mb upstream ( \o/ for uni internet) and a ping of 10, but my youtube streaming is really slow.

Is there any way to speed it up?

the problem is youtube not your side I have 50mb down and it's still slow.

If you browse while logged in to an account, there is a setting there to alter quality based on connection speed. Not sure if that is the default setting.

Video Playback Quality[changed]

Choose the default setting for viewing videos
Choose my video quality dynamically, based on the current connection speed.
I have a slow connection. Never play higher-quality video.
I have a fast connection. Always play higher-quality video when it's available.

The Youtube server infuriates me sometimes. Helps a bit when I download the actual .flv or .mp4 using 20 threads though!

I have a theory that the most popular videos stream faster than the less popular ones. No idea if this is true, but it seems to me like the least popular clips take longer to me!
