I'm in my first year as a driver and over the past couple of days I've had to travel a lot because of work. They provided me with a car - Toyota Corolla Turbo Diesel 2.0l.

It's the first car I've ever driven other than my Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 SXi. I was blown away by the speed / acceleration and power of this car - unreal!! You just have to tickle the accelerator and you're gone. It takes seconds to build up speed!

It might just be me being a n00b, but I can't get over the speed of the car. I know there's much faster cars available, but it was amazing the difference in response / speed from the car.

No real point to this post, just thought i'd share my experience. :)

I want one :p

If you had to drive it for a few months you'd soon get used to the speed. Next thing you know you move onto something newer and better and the Corolla would seem slow.

We've all been there. My 2.0 Mondeo seemed fast when I first got it, having driven a 1.6 Corolla for a while.

I soon got used to it. Moved to a 2.5. The increase in speed was good for a while but it didn't take that long to get used to it, now I want something faster again.

Its good to have a slower second car so you always feel this when you switch back. Unfortunately you definetly get used it, speed in a straight line anyway. Good handling is something special though

Takes about six months (or less) before you start thinking: "G*d this thing is slow!" There appears to be no upper limit to this process - my car is 325bhp and 320lbft and I still get that feeling sometimes...

Returned the car today :(

I would love to get something a bit faster, but I couldn't imagine the insurance! I'm currently paying £920 fully comp for the Corsa, I suppose I've just got to wait a few years or try and arrange more travelling with work :p :D

I've nipped to the shops in my car this morning and it sucks in comparison, doesn't seem to go anywhere at all (not quickly anyway). :o

I noticed this the other week when I had to borrow the transit with its colossal 85bhp whose greatest enemy is a gentle slope and then when I gave it back and drove my 1.3 ka with a similar power but weighs about 3 times less it seemed stupidly quick. I then got in my fiesta which felt like the starship enterprise.

It's quite nice constantly changing from my ka to my fiesta because, although not the quickest thing on 4 wheels, it stops me getting bored quickly from the speed.
