Where am I going wrong? I must be missing something.
I'm making the assumption that SpeedFan controls case fans, not GPU fans. My computer came with a program called VTune that controls GPU fans quite well. Since they still get quite hot and build a lot of heat, I've ordered another fan to stick in right next to them - covering them in cool air. Until it arrives, I'm looking into getting the best performance from my current case fans.
This is how I have SpeedFan set up at the moment (http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc212/darkstorne/SpeedFan.png - with Vtune also visible at the bottom). But as far as I can tell, it isn't actually doing anything to my fans. On top of that, I have no idea which fan is which. Speed 1, Speed 2, and Speed 3, mean nothing to me. I'd love to know if there's a way to 'test' these fans in SpeedFan. For example, crank Speed 2 up to 100% so that I can see which fan actually speeds up on my rig.
I have all three fans set up to monitor my GPUs. And have set the warning level low in an attempt to provoke more of a reaction from them to see if this app is working. They are all aiming for a temp of 40 degrees, with a warning level of 70 degrees. They have all been set up to have a minimum speed of 30%, and a max of 100%.
So I used a game to test this, waiting for my GPU temps to hit 70, and the only audible sound I could hear changing was from the GPU fans controlled by VTune. The case fans had no visual or audible change. Yet at the same time I can see SpeedFan telling me that Speed 1 and 3 are running at 80%, while Speed 2 is running at 53%. I might be concerned about why Speed 2 is only at 53%, were I not so bothered about where SpeedFan is pulling these numbers from.
My case fans are made by Noctua, and designed to be quiet, but surely not so quiet that even at 80% speeds I can't hear anything different to them running at 30% speeds.
So, long essay out of the way, what am I doing wrong? Have I missed something important? Does SpeedFan just not control case fans at all, but something different that I don't have? I'm so confused... To be honest, I'm quite amazed if you're still reading at this point. Well done you!
