Hi, no idea if anyone will have the answer to this, but I'm stuck and haven't found anything while searching on google...
Today my hdds were making some odd noises, so I shut down.. as they shut down the spin-down noise was really odd. However after I rebooted all sounds ok again.. but I'm worried so I thought I'd check the SMART data with speedfan.. which is showing low drive fitness on both of my seagate 7200.11 (500gb) and high fitness on my windows drive, a wd raptor 150gb.
Now, I thought it'd be useful to use the online in-depth analysis option in speed fan, however, it doesn't open properly - it just opens in ultraedit (which was my default for .html files.. but I changed that and it's now firefox).. and I can't for the life of me work out why it won't open the thing as a web page.
Anyone else had this problem? Either with drives making weird noises then not at all after a reboot (note: I've backed up my important data), or with speedfan?
Cheers
Edit: fixed the speedfan problem..
so now I have this problem with both my 500gb drives:
Seek Error Rate 41 374 57 -8869 Watch
Warning: Seek Error Rate is below the average limits (53-100).
The overall fitness for this drive is 43%.
The overall performance for this drive is 43%.
and drive 2:
NOTE : your hard disk has 360 reallocated sectors (this value is very large and your hard disk should be replaced). Hard disks do have spare sectors (usually from 256 up to 1024) used to replace bad ones. This remapping operation is transparent to the end user. Anyway, this can lead to degradated performances (because remapped sectors are in different places of the disk than the original ones and the head needs additional moving). If reallocated sectors grow over time, you might encounter some serious troubles. A backup of the most important data is suggested anyway.
The overall fitness for this drive is 26%.
The overall performance for this drive is 93%.
Both of these drives are around 1-2 months old.. RMA?
