My dad was sent a letter saying he was caught doing 115 mph, at 8:00am.. in a 40 zone, and in the transit van. Obviously this is ridiculous for more reasons than I can list, but he has to fill in the form and send it back. What else should he do, any chance it could go to court, or will they realize what a stupid mistake it was to even send him the letter, and even apologize?

Thoughts..

Edit:
He phoned the Lancashire Constabulary, they looked at the film inside the fixed camera and said it was a mistake - it went off because of a reflective glow from the lorry infront. He was infact doing 37mph. No problem as I thought.;)

It depends if he did it or not? How do you know it is a mistake? Some of the higher powered vans can probably manage 115 downhill...

Because he was driving at 8:00am when the roads are very busy, his van is loaded with heavy equipment no chance it can go 115mph..

You honestly think this is possible???

Lol Berger.

It was a fixed camera, go on the google map I put above, it shows the actual camera on the street view.

Letter from Lancashire Constabulary.

Are you expecting us to have any sympathy or any desire to help somebody who drove in such a pathetic, reckless and downright dangerous manner? No wonder half the country thinks speeding kills if there are people like your mate around.

115mph in anything at that location is just ridiculous let alone a Transit van with the handling capability of a towel.

Are you blind or missing the point? Do you read the thread title and not the actual post?

The point is he was sent a letter saying he did this, when he clearly did not, he was doing less than the speed limit, as there was a lorry infront anyway. Hopefully the photographic evidence will prove this. People like you need to learn to READ and find something called COMMON SENCE.

Any senceable suggestions?

Ok so some transits can do 115mph, my works ST Transit althought its been remapped could easliy do that dispite carrying a few hundred kg's of tools in the back. However if he was indeed following a lorry in the photo or at that particular time then clearly that ends the debate/child killer blah blah. Stick a copy of the letter your dad got along with an a4 peice of paper simply saying "LOL?" and mail it back, see what happens next.

I can't believe there was actually a debate here at all, just shows how dumb people are, especially the person who sent that letter.

Nice to know that these instruments are reliable and take accurate readings we can trust. Would he have queried it if it was 45mph?

Yes if he was doing under the limit which he was, no point getting fined for no reason.

It could have affected me aswell, as he's a named driver on my insurance, could have made mine go up..

Atleast I learned something from this, keep a big distance from the vehicle infront when going near a speed camera, otherwise this could happen.

He's just been written an apology, they also said they would look into the reflective glow problem with the camera. But.. imo they should be fined for causing this inconvenience, time and worry. Just glad he doesn't need to go to court.
