Speeding 115mph...

He's just been written an apology, they also said they would look into the reflective glow problem with the camera. But.. imo they should be fined for causing this inconvenience, time and worry. Just glad he doesn't need to go to court.
 
I had a similar ticket a few years ago, 99MPH in a 50 zone driving an HGV that has a speed limiter (56MPH) and is geared to do about 75 maximum before it goes bang in a big way.

Getting it sorted out was a lot easier than I first thought it would be, I guess you have to hope the person dealing with it at the other end is not a cretin. :)

Apparently something to do with the camera getting confused by the size of the vehicle, I'd have thought a van would not be prone to this mind you....
 
A transit, sprinter, or whatever other large 3500kgs van WILL NOT do 115mph.

Personally I disagree.

Sprinters have been known to flip over if you go past 120MPH in them :eek: (which is a crazy thing imo to attempt in a panel van!)

I have no doubt the bigger engined 6 pot sprinters (such as a 519CDi for example ) would crack 115 as long as they did not have a speed limiter.....

It sort of is, but it's complicated. The Transit competes also with the Crafter, Sprinter etc.

A VW Transporter's GVW ranges 2600kg to 3200kg.

A VW Crafter's GVW ranges 3000kg to 5000kg.

A Ford Transit's GVW ranges 2600kg to 4600kg.

A Mercedes Sprinter's GVW ranges 3000kg to 5000kg.

The Transit is only 400kg below the Crafter and Sprinter, yet 1400kg above the Transporter.

Me too. A 3200kg VW Transporter 180PS BiTDI will do 119 MPH, and a 190PS Sprinter will not be far off that.

I can confirm that a FIAT mobile home will not top 80mph, I tried, on many hills but never saw over 80mph.....so a real 70mph officer.

You have to remember that these are the maximum loads these vehicles will carry and not the actual weight of them.
I also sort of agree with you about the Transit and VW's being slightly different, but not for the same reasons as you. Its simply a matter of the transit comes in far more variations than any other van on the market.
 
there are vans out there that are capable of over 115mph. i should know because i shamefully broke the law and received 6 points and a fine for 108mph average 120mph top speed recorded by 2 seperate police cars on the M20.

Not condoneing speeding because it is stupidly dangerous!

OP, get legal advice before doing anything if your dad says he didnt do it and hes telling the truth he has to prove it. Manufacturers handbooks etc are not proof the vehicle was not travelling that speed to ignore whoever advised that. I would find a good solicitors, i used a company called: mary monson solicitors, very helpful and very costly but saved me my license. I would look on the net for solicitors offering free legal advice, you usually have to fill out a short detailed explanation of what has happened and they phone you back.

Dunno if this is any use to you but I had a problem like this a while back, Got a letter saying I had been clocked doing 143mph on the A55 :O I simply walked into the Rhyl police station and asked to speak to the most senior officer available, I then explained to him that the vehicle in question was limited to a maximum speed of 112mph and the camera reading was impossible and thus invalid, he agreed with me and said he would deal with the matter himself, I later received a letter to say the matter had been dropped :)
