Hi guys, spoke with my insuance company for a re quote over the weekend and they asked if I had any convictions, points bla bla.

Now, I have been riding superbikes over the last 3 years (just about 24 and got my licence at 21).

I am a rather 'enthusiastic' rider and ride my bikes like I stole them when I deem safe to.

When I was asked this question it got me thinking, how many of us bikers have points? Are we more careful than car drivers as my sister isn't a speedster like my self but always gets caught for minor infractions, such as 34 in a 30 or silly things like that.

Are we, as bikers just that little more alert to our surroundings and able to sniff a dodgy speed trap a mile away?

Just thinking out loud really.

I have been very fortunate but at the same time, like I said, only give it the beans when I think it's safe to. And of course, never go over the speed limit

I got 3 when I was on my provisional because my back l plate was missing

not had any since upgrading bigger, somehow! Intend to keep it that way

I've not got any points to date *touch wood*

I have had a couple of close calls wrt points though......

1st was going through a tunnel, got tugged at the exit (completely empty, so no real risks) around Nov/Dec. I was breathalised and then told I was going too fast around the corner for him to keep the LTI on me..... the sneaky git was hiding behind a sign.

2nd was a tug by traffic officers on bikes, fortunately they were on a call and didn't have time to write it up (Though I think they didn't have any proof as they said, "I had to do well over a ton to catch you")

3rd was going past a traffic car who had pulled over a lad in a golf on the m/way, I was probably doing about 1.3 leptons, he turned to go back to his car, then turned back and continued walking to the car he had pulled :D

Since taking up track riding I've stopped riding like a plonker on the roads, and consequently don't worry about it much any more.

Got my first three points couple of weeks ago

Pulled over of "checking" along with other drivers to.. My rear tyre (which i was on the way to change) was 0.1mm under the limt

That got me 3 points and £60 fine....also they took the mot of my bike

Then again i should have checked before every ride

Clean license for me......which is ridiculous really ;)

My dad on the other hand, who is probably the slowest driver I know, picked up 3 points for doing 46 in a 40 whilst towing his caravan through a temporary motorway speed limit :D

Clean licence for the last 14 years. I'd like to say this is because of my superior observation (because it sure as hell isn't anything to do with sticking to limits outside of residential areas etc.), but I suspect at least as great a factor is that there have been relatively few mobile cameras on my daily commute (though quite a few fixed ones).

I will be clean once April rolls around, 3 years since I got convicted. Think it was a 48 in a 30. Was gutted really, one of those days where I wasn't actually hooning it around the place, and simply wanted to get somewhere quickly. Ah well, like a notch on a bedpost I suppose lol.

Erm, while I'd love to say I've got more sensible since I got older or that it is because I was on a bike, but the evidence points to just one consistent factor - me.

EDIT: Full and complete history of my vehicular shenanigans removed. It was there for your enjoyment, but dont need it turning up in Google 3 years from now... :)

So right now, I'm floating on 3, but there is a ducati being rebuilt in my garage which probably wont help. I have in my time driven across most of this country on two or four wheels.

Yeah, it has made me stop and think a few times. And the speed awareness course certainly changed the way I drive. Anyhow I'm planning on spanking this bike on tracks rather than her majesty's highways.

Weirdly neither of the two accidents which were my fault have involved excess speed. They were however my fault..

I have only lost my licence once for speeding and been caught another 3 times in over 25 years not to bad I think considering when young like many I did not give a **** for the speed limit but now days I only speed in my very long drive way of course :)

Edit It is clean at the moment I am 48 years old so pick my times with more care now, down that long drive way of mine.

Got done once for speeding.
I got pulled over and the bike looked at[old harley chop], but they had to let me go. A cop bike followed me and pulled me over for speeding, claimed I was doing 35 in a 30. Annoying thing it was a few weeks before the on the spot fines or whatever they do now, I got an £80 fine and points in court.
A bloke who was appearing at the same time, had stopped his caravan and got stuff out and sat on the side of the motorway and made tea! he got a £15 fine. I was on the dole[£15 a week] and he was a city gent!

Lost my license twice and did a retest in my yoof due to excessive use of the right wrist

Clean as a whistle for over 25 years now :p:D

33 in a 30 is a sick joke, our speedo's are not always that accurate.. Hence some areas still use the 10%+2 method.

I've only ever had 3pts since 1987, I had a 1cm split on an L plate.. I got that after his attempt to do me for no MOT failed, the bike was 3 weeks old and so to save face he had to find something else to do me for

Nope, after 3 years on bikes and 6 years in various cars I have never had 1 point of ticking off.... amazing really.

With more and more ridiculous 40/50mph limits popping up every year I guess the chances of getting caught being over is getting higher and higher.

3points. None of them from riding the bike but driving a bloody transit van. went from the M9 to the A90 and didn't realize it had changed, sitting at 70 and obviously can only do 60 on A roads ARRRGHHH

What's amazing about this is the 70mph in a transit can bit :p
