Speeding in America

Wow that cop was an ass, that's no way to treat someone in that situation, he was totally unprofessional in his attitude, just plain rude, while the German chap he stopped was nothing but polite, he even called him Sir. If I saw that video and I was that cops boss, I'd have been pretty damn unhappy with the way he was representing the force.

The tourist can be as polite as he likes and it still doesn't change the fact that he was breaking the law and deserved a telling off. It's not like he got a ticket so I'd say that was pretty fair apart from the "boy" comment which harks back to more unpleasant times.

I'd be chuffed to be given a verbal ticking off if I was caught bang to rights breaking the law :)

Firm but fair imo. He might have ruined the cop's donut run.

Bit extreme for a bit of arrogance isn't it?

Blood hell [TW]Fox would be riddled with holes if he ever goes stateside :D

It was the arse ra pe comment that got me i think :)

That was above and beyond the call of duty.

Hehe its true, the cop was a *****.

Beyond call of duty and beyond need. Still shooting people for this kind of thing would probably result in human kinds numbers dwindling :P

Must say I was laughing quite hard at that. It does strike me that many Americans in a position of power tend to be all high and mighty, "respect my authoritaah" types. :D The guy was plainly in the wrong though and to be fair, I'd be happy with a bit of verbal abuse over a few points + fine in the UK.

Customs can be a nightmare, for example, and it's put me off going back there tbh.

I disagree, the police officer treated him like some sort of naughty child, only with added bum rape comments, that is not the sort of approach you take as a professional police officer, it's totally unacceptable and makes the police officer and the office he represents seem asinine and childish.

Yes the guy broke the law, and yes the police officer should have made this clear to him and maybe even given him a ticket (I know he didn't in this case). But being a rude ***** about it is not acceptable.

I am not sure about the American police to be honest, but police in the UK at least police by public consent, only in Northern Ireland do they act more as paramilitaries. Considering that the American police forces were originally based on the the Metropolitan Police Act 1829, the first truly professional police force then I assume they do police by consent, maybe they should remember this when they are doing their jobs.

That's not to say they need to be spineless cowards about it, afraid to cause offence, it just means there is a certain conduct and decorum and professional approach that is called for ...and use of minimum force when possible ...rather than just going in guns blazing.

I remember when I got pulled over, the policeman was nice enough but said he could either give me 3 points and a fine, or the rollocking of my life :p

I chose the second and he was true to his word :o

TBH it could have been worse. Yes he was unprofessional to a degree, but I think we need to take it in context. The German driver said at first he didn't know the speed limit. The copper was simply asking why the German was driving a car in the USA if he hadn't taken time to familiarise himself with their motoring laws.

All things considered, he got about 30 seconds of earache for doing 98mph in a 70. Bargain!

98 in a 70 and all he got was an ear bashing, he was lucky.
Dont really think the cop was out of order, he used his discretion and gave the guy a telling off instead of a fine.
