Hi all.

I can't remember but is it 28 days to reply to the NIP

Then they send a letter with points and fine. Then you have 28 days to pay that ?

I know it's defenatatly 28 days to respond to the NIP letter from the date of the letter, but not sure about settling the fine

Its 28 days to have the payment confirmed? Eg paying it on the 28th day could land you in trouble if the payment doesnt clear etc. But yea, they'll send through the terms which are usually 28 days.

Wonder if I will get offered a speed awareness course again. Have many people had these twice ? I had one like 5 or 6 years ago.

I don't have any points currently. My last were in Oct 2012 and Jan 2013 so should have been auto wiped off by now. But iv obviously just received a notice of intended prosecution for going 58 in a 50 (which imo should be and though was a 60mph dual carriageway )

What's the chances off them offering the course ?

I thought 320d drivers were exempt from the high way code and the law  just tell them they must have made a mistake :D

Pffft. Lol

The road limits round here are ridiculous. It's a dual carriage way. I do obey the law but I honestly thought the road I was on was 60

There were 50 speed inforcements on the motorway about an hour ago, 50, hardly a car in sight, no roadworks, normal driving conditions (bit damp). They randomly do it for no reason what so ever

Most of us have been there mate. in all honesty, we are given 10%+2 (so 57 and above is punishable) + our speedos tend to over read, so its a fair cop really man.

I would expect you will be offered "the course", so just suck it up and get it done :)

Cool. Will get the letter sent off. Good thing I actually received it as the posty had delivered it to the wrong house , even though my correct address was on there. That would have been fun if it didn't get through

I think they tend to offer courses if your doing up to 10mph over the posted limit in 50/60 zones. I got the course for doing 70 in a 60 so I would think for your speed you would be offered it too.

I have a hunch they may not, don't know will see.

Even if you been on a speed awareness course and don't take the points it bumps your premium up? Some people doubling theirs ? That's not going to be good

Some insurance providers ask about it (ie. Admiral group), most others do not.

We were told on our course that we do not have to divulge it to insurers as going on the course isnt techically the same as having points and a fine. But I guess if insurance companies are now outright asking then I dont think lying about it would be a good idea. Perhaps just try ro find one who does not ask - shouldn't be too hard.

Bah, I got traffic cameras flash me on the 7th Dec on my way home from doing a gig and today I received the expected letter from Thames Valley Police. So a large chunk of what I earned will vanish. Long gone are the days where cameras had film in them and often ran out. You can't get away with it anymore.

Really annoyed at myself because I haven't had any speeding offence since 2009 when I collected 3 points for doing 60 in a temporary 50 on the motorway. Those points got removed in 2014 and my licence is clean.

However, looks like the letter is saying I'll get offered a speed awareness course. I did one of those years ago. The letter says my recorded speed was 37mph in a 30. It says speed threshold for 30mph roads is 35 to 42mph.

Guess I'll take that option instead of fixed penalty and points. Anyone know how much the course costs these days? Was about £100 when I attended and that must be over 10 years ago.

Mine cost £80 but i guess different forces have different prices.

I got caught last year doing 70 in a 60. Thing is the GATSO speed cameras in staffordshire have been off for years. The cameras on this particular stretch of road have been off for over 4 years then early one morning - bam! One was back on. Bah humbug! Lol.
