Over double the limit, you would not have been offered anything other than what you got handed down to you anyway. *shrug*

I did 110 in a 30 once, no children died....

It was 2am though, and I think the road was not marked correctly, as there were no houses I could see, just roudabouts and industrial buildings.

Wow, if it's £80 that would be great but I somehow doubt that. I'm sort of expecting about £150 or more.

Well I received my offer of a speed awareness course and have booked it. The closest venue is 8 miles away and costs £97. 14 miles away however it costs £85 as it goes into hertfordshire, so no brainer. Crazy really, as the cost varies between £85 and £100. It should be £85 across the board.

When I did one of these many years ago, at the end of the session we had to go out with one of the driving instructors and drive around for half an hour. I'm hoping we don't have to bother this time. It just says:

The course is an interactive workshop, combining discussion, group work and presentations. It is presented by professional, specially trained driving instructors. It has been designed to be participative, informative and structured in a friendly non-confrontational manner. It conforms to the National Model issued by the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC).
It aims to provide an opportunity to look at speed related issues, especially how to recognise speed limits and determine appropriate speed for a variety of road and traffic conditions. There is no formal test.

Oh well, if it was 2am, that's ok. Even better than you didn't kill any children.
Go you!!

You don't have to go out with the instructor afterwards.

Well that's good to hear.

As I say, I had to go out with the instructor (it has to be up to 10 years ago now I think) and perhaps it varies depending on who is running the course. Unless it's something that has been stopped completely.

In fairness, speed awareness courses are a good thing for motorists. 5 years ago, you'd have been getting 3 points and a £60 fine. Now you'd be getting 3pts and a £100 fine. So for it to cost only £85 to do a workshop and you get no points, that sounds good to me.

I've never been on one, but I know the biggest worry/annoyance for people is that they think that they're going to be repeatedly told they're child killers for 4 hours, but I don't think it's at all like that as even the oldest/most stubborn people I know come back and say "It wasn't that bad actually".

My missus attended one, said she learnt quite a bit, they even told her why the motorway is 70mph and not higher, cant remember the actual reason but she did say she was surprised how little some of the other motorists on it knew about the roads and signs etc.

Every insurance company I've had a quote with in the last two years now ask whether you've attended any courses in the last 5 years, they have all cottoned on and will charge extra if you have.

Tbf even if it was like that I'd still prefer it to having points, not that hard to sit there and make all the right noises even if you think it's a load of crap.

I actually learnt some stuff when I went to one, and the guy running it was pretty funny. I think it was a worthwhile experience tbh.

When I attended the course a few years ago, I enjoyed it and learnt a lot.

Blimey, if that's the case, it's as bad as getting points.

Imagine it may boost premiums by less than 3pts would, how much the difference is though who knows.

I.e. you were eligible for the course rather than speeding by more then x over which meant you weren't offered the course.

Never understood though why doing a higher speed means you don't get an awareness course, surely that means you're more in need of it (by their definitions)

So here I am, just arrived at a luxury De Vere hotel, sitting with a crowd of people, all waiting to start the speed awareness course. *yawn*. :p
