Speeding on a push bike?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Today I managed to set one of those "30" signs off on my push bike.

I was wondering, could I get done at all, if caught by a speed camera or something like that? I ask as I have no speedo on my bike, so I have no idea which side of 30 I'm doing. :)

the speed limit is there for all road users. as much as a camera wouldnt do anything (would flash but not like you would get a fine or anything), i would hope a copper would stop you if he was speed checking.

yes, coppers have done speeding cyclists before, however I'm not sure how, as you don't legally need a spedo on the bike, so how would you know how fast your going. Ithink most cycle related offences is a simple fixed fine.

I was once cautioned for Wanton Furious Cycling... I jumped a red light and cut up a taxi (I was in a strop because he nearly killed me a few moments before)... I'm not sure whether the plod made that up or not, but if he did, he should go into acting because he didn't skip a beat :D

I can understand be changed for dangerous riding or something like that on a push bike but how on Earth would the make a speeding offense stick? The vast majority don't have a speedo so riders have no way of telling, not fair really.

I always used to try and set one of the cameras off on my bike. The camera is on a lovely nice dual carriage way road on a big hill and the limit is 30, I'm sure I must be above 30mph when i pass the camera (bottom of the hill) but I've never been able to trigger it. :(

Never been able to set the one off around here, think its set at 35-40mph so i cant get to that on a flat not so long road. :(

Got a warning for dangerous cycling(me + my mate jumping of a big stairset at 9pm) "you could kill somebody"......yes cause it is literally like oxford street.....NOT. :o

Agreed, it's along the lines of dangerous riding. Can't get done for speeding if you (legally) don't require and have a speedo.

Those things are totally unreliable for bikes anyway, I have sent them off when riding at only 10 mph before and unless you were going downhill or intentionally sprinting to try and set it off it is unlikely you were doing 30 mph.

You can be done for being drunk and in charge of a vehicle on a push bike, so i'd imagine if they really wanted to pretend you'd done something wrong they could throw speeding at you too.

I think I'll have to have a few more experiments with that 30 sign, so I know how fast 30 feels like on the bike... :D

I've been thru it a few times before, and I don't normally set it off, but it wasn't that windy today so I was going for it. I think you really have to be going some to be doing more than 30 on a bike tho tbh.

Anyway, if I was speeding (weather knowing it or not), I'm sure I would end up worse off if I was in a crash on the bike, so I don't go stupid speeds when it's busy.

Where is the camera at? I fancy a go at it :p
It's not exactly near the centre... It's closer to the airport. It's one of the country lanes coming off the A38. Barrow lane, I think. ;)

The roads round there have moon crater like potholes tho... Certainly keeps you on your toes when you have 22mm wide tyres!

is that where it goes down hill and bends to the right, on the way to the airport?

im sure the camera was removed from there some time ago, have they put it back in?

Do you legally need one on a car?
I am sure one of my friends cars passed the MOT with a dead speedo.

I once did 40mph (on an old mountain bike) sadly there was no speed camera.

I think I broke a 30mph speed limit once (in my cycling days), but there wasn't a camera.

My Dad (who does a lot of road cycling) has got up to 50mph before (according to his speedometer), but it feels so much faster on the push bikes because the the stability being reduced, etc.; although I suppose the faster the wheels go, the more stable one is.

From what I understand you can get done for "speed in excess of XXX" by a beat copper with no speed checking gear. It's all down to the fact that in his opinion you were "speeding", so having no speedo on a bike couldn't be a defence :)
