Imagine you happen to be driving westbound near yeovil on the A303, nice big A-road, late at night.

Pottering along at ~95, all of a sudden you see a gatso right infront of you and slam on the brakes, the limit is 50 and you slide through it as it flashes you with your speedo passing ~60 but falling rappidly.

Reccon you'd get away with it being as speedo's are a touch slow to react a lot of the time and they add a little to the limit before they prosecute anyway?

it flashed.. so it detected you going over 50mph..

95 in a 50? you the one that killed a MR2? :p

It could have been possible that i may have lost speed fast enough that i would have been under the limit in the picture could it not? I understood that radar sets gatso's off before you reach them, obviously i would have been well over before this so would have triggered it.

Or am i just being too hopeful :p

If you were slowing down, It may have triggered at 60 but you may have knocked enough off after the first flash to get away with it. Trigger speed 60 final speed (flash 2 + using measurements on the lines) = 45/50.

Course this is a long long shot and the very optimistic side verging on impossible, be thankfull you wen't at full pelt

At least i can keep up my slight optimism :D

Anyone who has driven along the A303 at this point will vouch that the limit is rather low for the road conditions, its the type of road where virtually everyone has to slam the achors on for the camera's :)

not being funny.. but from that i take it you knew there were camera's on it?

still 95 in a 50 mate lol asking for trouble :p

here hoping for you.. that ya lucky ;)

Its hardly excessive for the road, i am not posting to whinge about it, simply asking what people thought about the possible radar detecting me and then me possibly losing enough speed to be under by the time i slid through the dashed lines :) If i got done then fair enough i will pay the fine.

If it was a forward facing Gatso, meaning it flashed you in the face. Surely you can't get done anyway?

if it was infront of you but took your picture from behind, then no you'll be fined and rightly so.

Unless it was a Truvelo or whatever it's called. :p

It'll have taken pictures of your brake lights too, that must count for something. They know you were slowing down. :p

Sorry h'officer. My brake light switch is broken and thus the lights stay on all the time. I was simply driving to a scrap yard to purchase an item of said description.

;)

Also, I jacked my rear suspension right up to give me better times along the local drag str... I mean my private road.

Driving to a scrap yard to pick up items for your broken warrantied company registered lease car sir?
Think they'll see through it somehow :p

Dont worry about it, all the fine is these days is a jerry cans worth of petrol and a match, oh and might aswell take some marshmellows too.

Gatsos don't face forward, they are rear facing cameras. Truvelos face forward and are allowed to because their flash is hardly visible to the human eye and therefore won't dazzle drivers like a Gatso would.

Working on the notion that you were doing more than the trigger speed (which will normally be at least 5-10 mph above the limit) to cause the first flash, unless you had scrubbed enough speed in the half second it took for the second flash to go off, you're unlikely to have saved your proverbial bacon.

(wow, that's a badly composed sentence, but I really cannot be bothered to reword it! I hope you get my point)

Just hope for no film, or a kind citizen to decommission the unit before the film is removed.
